I am currently trying to work out the best loadout for my Commando, but one thing is bothering me. To enter battle you require a minimum of 10 heatsinks.

However, if I were to purchase the double heatsink upgrade would this be a way around having to have 10 heatsinks? As with a 150xl there would be 6 internal double heatsinks giving me the equivalent of 12 normal heatsinks.

I appreciate your help guys as i dont want to spend 1.5mil creds on a useless upgrade otherwise.

Peace.

No. You need 10 physical heat sink components installed on your mech. It does not matter if they are SHS or DHS. Using a 150XL gives you 6/10. You'd always need 4 external heat sinks.
Upgrading to DHS just makes your 10 heat sinks more efficient - which is hardly needed on the Commando.

Single or double you need 10 minimum to launch a mech into a game.

Every 25 engine rating, your engine will have 1 heat sink. For instance, your XL150 will have 6 internal engine heat sinks (deviation from TT) so you only need to add 4 additional heat sinks to run.

Double heat sinks, however act a little different in the regard. Internal engine DHS included inside the engine dissipate 0.2 heat per second (as per TT/Canon). External double heat sinks added that take up mech critical slots only dissipate .14 heat per second. Keeping that in mind, when using DHS on any mech, you want as many internal DHS as possible, to 1) save criticals by not having to add them on to your mech and 2) because you get significantly better heat efficiency out of them.

So, for your Commando, I'd recommend saving up and buying at Least an XL175 or XL200 if at all possible.

No. your mech still requires 10 total heat sinks to run regardless of what type they are. I see what you mean by 6DHS has the equivalent cooling efficiency as 12 single heat sinks -- but the way the current mechlab works is you still need a total of 10 DHS somewhere on your mech to run. So, if you do stick with the XL 150, you would have to add 4 additional DHS somewhere on your Commando, occupying 12 critical slots.

Hope that answers your question.

Heh, xl 200 or better if you want your commando to live a decent time!
