I think it's a little ridiculous that I'm standing on a hill on Forest Colony sniping with an AC/10 and some Atlas can just start unloading Large Lasers into my back without me hearing a sound. And my speakers are on and pretty loud. If I hadnt noticed the flashing red icon for my rear armor he probably could have just killed me.
Why is there a lack of sound effects from being shot sometimes? I can't be the only person experiencing this and seeing it as an issue. I would assume that a high temperature laser beam being fired into a 50 ton brawler would make some kind of noise?

Why Am I Not Hearing My X Ton Mech Getting Hit By Y?

At best you'd hear metal vaporizing from a laser, but beyond that no.

I've noticed this as well myself, lately. At random times, I'll stop getting any audio-visual feedback from taking hits. No flashing red areas around my hud, no thuds or screen shake, nothing. Only the paperdoll flashing. Lost my cockpit because I didn't realize I was taking repeated AC/2 hits to it until right before the last one hit and killed me. And it wasn't that I was taking over hits that make it hard to notice the AC/2 shots. I was taking no other damage. I've seen it several other times from lasers. Only reason I noticed those is because I see the last flash past and then see my paperdoll flash, without the sound effect or red flash I'm supposed to be getting.

This is a common problem, but I'm not sure if they are looking into it. I had a similar experience with a quad ballistic Cataphract sneaking up on me(Not the stealthiest of mechs when it alpha's). I only heard one of the three alpha's he said he put into my back...of course...it was the last one which sent me in smoke down a hill.
Hopefully they will correct this next patch.

Ive noticed that if the weapon impact or impacts from a salvo/alpha is small enough, it wont register on the red-flashing impact alert on the HUD.
It seems medium and especially small lasers are prone to fall below the alert threshold. The more you pile in in the salvo, the greater the odds it will be detected. If the shot makes the targeted mech lurch, then they'll detect it.

This has been happening a LOT lately... like I'll just be wandering around and whatever and notice that I have damage to some part of my armour.. wtf, I don't remember being shot or hit by anything when did that happen... this occurs frequently.

Lasers make a "pew pew pew" sound... it's fairly well documented... maybe there was too much "dakka dakka dakka" and you just couldn't hear them

There is most definitely numerous occasions when playing where you will hear a shot being fired and not being received by the target

If you engage a target from far enough away, they wont hear the laser fire, or the sizzle from the impact. Once again, mediums and smalls are good for this.
