We need a "Battle Value" System.

Just like in table top.

1.4 "double" heat sinks is a little dumb. I get why they were done when they were done but... pft.

The current economic system doesn't really promote premium.

I say, implement a BV system, and make battles payout a multiplier of that. If people go all Hunchies with small lasers, there should be a bonus to that team.

If we're not going to match BV, maybe we should reward the "innovators" who took a risk.

We need a system that rewards the unconventional.

Too many ECM Ravens with DDC backing them up right now.

I echo this, I think I posted it elsewhere. Except rather than BV, just use the value of the mech, and tweak some of the current item costs (ECM -> 1-2MM) to help balance. That's my take anyhoo. Incidentally I think ECM is fine (lights are broken more than ECM in my eyes) but should definitely cost more than 400K for all the advantages it brings, and/or carry a high BV.

Ok, you suggest a reasonable system to be introduced to the game. Why do you think it needs to be there?

Not trying to start an argument, I'm just a fan of people providing reasons behind their proposals.

Original poster wandered off, but my thoughts were around <=4man and 8man matching. Currently <=4 matches by weight class and 8man has no matching restrictions.

For <=4mans, a BV value would help control newbie exposure (I think trial mechs should get a discounted BV, ie ~50-75% of their actual value - so new players count for very little when they queue up) to things like ECM and tricked out builds. Since weight class is part of the cbill value of the mech (my recommendation for a BV standin) you could match on BV alone and toss weights out the window, adding a little more randomness to the game.

For 8mans, a BV value would reign in some of the disparity in team comps. Potentially a BV cap could be installed as well - ie, if I bring my un-tricked-out HBK-SP someone else can bring their Raven 3L + ECM.

I think for it to work well, PGI would need to give players an idea of the average value/mech for solo, 4man drop and 8man drop and variances, a la:
Solo Q: 6MM +/- 3MM
4M: 35MM +/- 5MM
8M: 100MM cap, 90MM avg +/- 10MM

So, a team of 8 ECM ravens will always get the most bonus? pft....

SOON.tm

It's in the works, or something like it, we'll see it around the time we see Community Warfare [if we see community warfare at this rate]

seriously though. They've talked about this quite some time ago, Piloting skill will most likely be the ELO matchmaking solution, add in the variables of equipment, mech, ect, and boom, BV system.
