I've seen 50 bazillion posts (ok that's a bit of a hyprebole but I digress)
You can indeed open chat communications in game with another player. Just double-click a player's name on your friends list. This opens a chat window with them. You can add more players in the same fashion to the same chat session. You can use this to form groups, chat about the game, mech builds, etc.

You have to have friends in the first place, however.

First off, its pretty well hidden and not very comfortable to use (players usually don't even see when you try to chat with them)
Secondly what most people are referring to when asking for a chat is a global chat as well as team chat etc.

I understand both of these but it IS in there and IS an option for someone not wanting to use a 3rd-party software like TS or C3. As far as adding players on your friends list just have to play a bit and add people you see in-game if you don't like the TS options. I'm just putting this out there for people who don't know it's there. It's an extra option and I know what most are asking for because I'm asking for the same thing

Friends list still needs a lot of work. Having a "recently played with" list would make grouping up a lot easier as I can never remember names of the chatty people after a round has ended.

First off when you get a chat like that from a friend it needs to pop up on your screen.
Second you should have the ability to make a channel other than a group channel for your house/group/merc corp, etc.
Third all those new players have only one time when they can cry for help, that is when everyone is too busy to pay much attention.
And that is assuming they are smart enough to go look at key bindings and figure out the keys.

I agree but it's still in there for use at the moment. It doesn't affect me all that much as I play on TS quite a bit but it's still a resource that many players don't know about and might want to use. If you don't like the option ok but why feel the need to post on here saying it's not the solution? lol This never said it was the solution just an option.

What was the point of this post? Seriously. You offered nothign but a complaint. It's thing like this that I don't understand. Don't like it don't use it but it's still an option that players who DO want to use should know about

You are incorrect, there is no in game chat. A in game chat option would allow you to talk to other people in game, not just people currently on your friends list. If i want to talk to one of my friends chances are we already have skype or some other form of VOIP(steam chat, etc).

False, you're simply mistaken. You can chat in game. It might not be the way you want it to be at moment but it's there. Why would you try to derail this thread? It's not a suggestion thread it's an informative thread for those who don't know about it

The Social/Group box is the worst part of the launcher imo, i use it to group with a m8, but we only use the group option to launch and then skype,
One of my other m8's came online and tried chatting to me I didn't know about it till i got a FB message of him.

A good ingame chat system would be a really necessary feature I think. This would be a greate improvement to the community - especially for the Lone Wolfs, Newbies and also for such folks who can't speak english well.
I hope they are able to integrate a few Lobby chatrooms (maybe like the good old MPBT Solaris 7 - I miss the old COPPERS COIN
)
EA made the same mistake with 3025 - they forget the implement a few more places where the community can met ingame. They had only one big general chat, which was a pain most times.

When yuo click on their name and send a chat, they get nothing on their side. They have to "know" you sent something and click on your name.
So, you send chat text, then get on VOIP and say "hey sent you a chat message", and then they can receive that message. Hardly a chat system.
