This is a major milestone in the evolution of this game not only because it will make MWO significantly more accessible, but it also shows that PGI is seriously committed to attracting a wider and more casual player base beyond hardcore MW fans. With this patch I finally feel that I can recommend this game to someone who does not have much experience with MW or tactical shooter sims in general. I remember when I tried to convince some of my friends to try it but they became quickly discouraged when they realized they did not even have access to the mech lab, and that they would have to invest significant time before they could even try one of the main game features.

I'm also very pleased that repair and rearm costs have been removed as I always believed that such economics in no way contributed to the gameplay in anyway. I remember how in World of Tanks non premium palayers had to play lower tier tanks simply to maintain higher tier tanks. Needles to say, no one found that fun.

Most of us know that such design decisions will polarize the community and that is to be expected. But PGI has to decide what sort of game MWO really is. Is it a niche tactical shooter that will have 500-1000 players at any time? Will MWO become a game that is accessible to everyone (easy to learn) with true tactical depth and complexity (difficult to master). I think they are moving in the right direction.
