Have no hero mechs nor am a founder... yet don't particularly like the removal of RR. While I see why they would do this and it would benefits the newbies (kinda), the main "gainers" would be those running 10+ tons of ammo... who, instead of sitting with an equivalent of 7.5 free tons can now have 2.5 tons more than they previously had. And thus easier to pwn newbies. My micro-ssrm mechs appreciate it deeply though...

In a similar line of thoughts, why shouldn't an expensive mech be more expensive to run? With this changes, be them temporary or not, the only higher cost would be when we buy them. They already decreased XL repair cost to a bare minimum (who still remember the millions we used to pay?), now a highly tuned mech is significantly much cheaper to run... kind of a bit too cheap, imho. And no, am not rich or anything... had to grind for weeks and sometimes several hours a day to get my mechs and decent equipments.

Also, instead of making players play smarter to decrease RR cost (not shooting like a dummy, focus fire to minimize potential damage and therefore repair) am afraid most would end up gaining new bad habits. Btw, in many MMOs (although MWO is not exactly one) if you break your weapons and armors, you need to repair them. No magical healing of exploded mechs.

Anyway!! Am waiting to see the real thing instead of criticizing based only on... words.

I can't believe they're taking that part of the game out where I get my cataphract stripped beyond recognition and taken by the other team for salvage, but then repair it for the price of a few dozen gauss slugs. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REALISM???

But seriously, I am absolutely thrilled by this move. I won't have to sit there and go "should I go run my ecm cicada more just to make money, or do I have enough cbills to burn on some fun times with my artemis atlas, that costs 140k to repair if it gets wrecked. I can just play the mech I want, and as long as I do well, I'll make a profit. if I do poorly, I'll get peanuts.

I won't have to sit there and go "should I just take this to center chest and die cleanly, or use my skill with the game to roll my torso, while watching my armor and money evaporate as a penalty for knowing how to play."

I like that I will see less trial mechs on my team and more of pilots running a mech they care about with the gear they want instead of some un-repaired econo-crap.. or some stock loadout the devs pulled out of a hat this week.

Also I will be handed 80 suitcases of Cbills. I like that. I hope more patches do that.

I agree with this 100%.

I've been running nothing but Commandos since I started playing MWO (with the occasional jaunt in a trial mech) because they are just so cheap to repair (and fun as heck to run!) Even if I get completely shredded my repair bill was small and I'd always make some money.

Now I've purchased a Phract (bought it on Friday I think). I'm really not very good with the thing yet which means that I've not walked off the field without an extraordinary amount of damage. Oh, wait, I've not walked off the field at all yet because I get splashed all over the landscape! I lose money every match! So much so that I regularly have to run a Commando just to grind c-bills so that I can practice in my Phract! (Well, let's be honest, I'm not grinding 'cause I just have a blast in a Commando!)

Anyway, as pointed out, with this new implementation I can go out in my Phract and not have to worry about losing money for RnR. Which means more time in it to improve my skills so that I can better support my team instead of being a liability.

I think this is a win!

Cheers!

The change is an improvement and it requires less grinding for newbies to get started, thus increases retention. The initial grinding nearly turned me away, but I still persevered. But I still rather not see the newbies thrown into the shark tank.

I might actually rebuy my Atlas with these changes. It was a real money sink despite my performance in battles. I'll have to try out MWO tomorrow with my current stable and see where things are going.
