my "no" comes with a caveat. You should not be able to sell to other players, but you should be able to sell it to a "retailer" in game for a fraction of what you paid for it, but that money should be like trading in your car to a car dealer, there should be no "auto-trader magazine" for mechwarriors.

Since what you are selling is not "second hand" in any way but name alone, this is not a good idea. If what people were buying were well used, slightly damaged real second hand mechs that did not perform as well as new mechs maybe.....otherwise you're just finding ways for gold farmers to buy mechs for C bills, sell them to players for cash and then trade them in game as brand new.

Mechs between the very best and the very worst would get cheaper and cheaper as people undercut each other to get "something" for their cast offs and this would increase the average mech weight and quality from players who have neither earned the time in game to afford the real deal nor gained enough experience to feel its value as an upgrade.

I dont see how an auction house would be good for MWO.

However if a player wants to buy and gift an item to another player thats cool.

That isssss exactly what happens anyway

When you sell a mech
it goes to the digital mech repair & refit yard
in the central server at piranha
where it is stripped down
repainted and rearmed to a standard design
and resold to another user
good as new

Big smile
So I don’t see what the OP is on about

If this was a subscription game, certainly. But, as a micropayment title, buying mechs will be a big part of the funding going into PGI

Obviously people can get mechs for free by grinding, but then the grind itself acts as a bit of leverage to entice people into taking a shortcut and paying $$$ for a new mech. Trading, selling, or auctioning is going to take money right out of the developer's/publisher's pockets.

If it were for C-Bills and both Hero and Champion Mech's were excluded from the listing system, then the OP would be on to a good idea. It would effectively be an alternative way for people to acquire new Mech's once they have mastered other one's that they don't really want to play. Selling Mech's as it is is a laughable joke in terms of how much you get for C-Bills versus what you pay.

Most F2P MMO games have some kind of player trading as it is one of the strongest social aspects a multiplayer game can provide. But those games are usually smart enough to offer much convenience, up to actual game advantages through the shop and rarely make the mistake to sell competitive weapons and equipment. This is different in MWO and player trading could impact store sales.

The solution would be to only allow the trade of Mechs that can be purchased for C-Bills.

I feel the added game experience would be worth a possible reduction in MC sales. There is always something else those MC can be spend for. As most players are budget constrained, PGI still gets their money.
