I had a dream.... forgot how the rest goes so I can make it funny in this case so screw it.

Ok I really did have a dream last night. It was there was little mini mechs (that I've been calling mechlings :D) that you could control from your mech that are weak and slightly powerful thats made for: scouting, suicide rushes (since you won't lose your real mech when it gets blown to hell), ambushes, distractions, annoying the hell out of the enemy.

I know it's probably a stupid idea... I only played a day, I know nothing about mech warrior and it's universe, and I have no idea about game balances. I figured I'd throw it out there because it does sound interesting to me.

The mechling will put on your mech like any other part/weapon. And at a press of a button you'll deploy your mechling at any time. Not sure if it would be better to only use pre-made mechlings or be able to customize your mechling like you do your own mech but to a lesser extent.

As for game play, some limitations to it would be say...

1) While your controlling your mechling, your real mech is a sitting duck. You can self-destruct your mechling to regain control of your real mech. But still you'd wanna find a hiding spot so that won't happen.

2) Limited signal range, so you can't just sit back on the other side of the map attacking the enemy with your mechling. You have to be a little behind the front lines in order to attack the enemy.

3) The weapons, armor, and speed of your mechlings won't ever match a main mech. Max speed one could achieve would say.... 80 or so? (maybe faster if that feels too slow) And it's armor is weak so about two good hits will destroy it. Though it's size is about half that of a normal mech so it is harder to hit. And the weapons .. won't pack a punch, be still be enough to weaken a body part or two for your real mech to finish off.

And it's main uses would be:

1) Being a disposable scout. It'll give information the same way your main mech does. And you'll be able to get surrounded and not lose your ONE life. Scouting made safe....-ish... Oh and you'll have have a better feel of where the enemy is at since you can get up into the middle of a group of them.

2) Distraction! Say a lot of the enemies like using missiles and lasers from far away and really keeping your buddies from getting near them. You can send your mechling in to attack them. If it gets blown up, oh well atleast your still alive. If it get's close, your mechling is powerful enough to where they can't just ignore it, forcing them to stop their long distance weapon barrage. Allowing your buddies to move in or start fighting back.

3) Ambushes and or suicide attacks. You can go send in your mechling to to attack the enemy before you yourself do. Weakening them for your main mech to finish off. Or if the enemy has already been heavy damaged, your mechling will be powerful enough to finish them off. And all that from the safety of your cockpit in your main mech.

And thats about it for this wall of text lol. Want a tl;dr? Then it would be, small weak mechs you can remote control for whatever reason.

They're trying to stick pretty close to canon, so I don't think they'll ever do something like this.

Battlemechs under 20 tons are super-rare (as in, there's 2 of them, and one isn't even fully canon).

Maybe you'd have better luck pushing for PGI to one day implement Battle Armors into the game.

Love the idea, but it really isn't for this game as they are indeed trying to stick to the Battletech cannon. So I voted as such. Great idea though :)

Ah I see. Wouldn't fit in mech warrior's universe canon wise. Well thats fine. Atleast I hope I gave the guys making the game an idea or two lol.

Well, we are supposed to be getting launchable drones in the distant future for the community warfare... I don't see why it can't be a version of what you have proposed here...
