So my build is an Awesome AWS-8R with 2 LRM20s, 2 medium lasers, 1 large laser, and AMS.

I have 9 18 heat sinks currently installed, focused in the left and right torso area with 1 in each leg, and a lot of hardpoint space.

I have the C-Bills to buy the double heat sinks, but I wanted some opinions on the effectiveness of DHS vs. the extra hardpoint space.

Short answer: They are worth it in almost any mech/configuration.

If you want to proof it by yourself:

Download. Then be happy with brewing :-)

Almost always yes.

If you have 18 single heatsinks total then by simply switching to DHS you gain 8 tons. 5-8 crit slots depending on your engine rating. And 2 more heat dissipation.

Whether adding more ammo, artemis, even more weapons and heatsinks or a bigger engine to use up those 8 tons is worth 1.5 million is up to you.

I would do it in a heartbeat. There is a reason almost no mechs designed after 3055 have single heatsinks. They only make sense for light mechs with few or no weapons, or ghetto mechs designed to keep costs down. Most everything else uses DHS.

Yeah, I'd definitely like to add ARTEMIS to it since I'm playing support. Thanks for the feedback.

Just remember that ARTEMIS was changed so you don't get the bonus if you don't have LoS.

as has been said with the current implementation double are always worth it.

In your case with 18 singles and I am assuming a 250 or larger engine, in the awesome. If you go to doubles you will get the equivelent of 20 singles just from your engine (2.0 x 10 from engine alone, not even including extra engine slots), givening you better heat efficiency and saving 8 tons. then any other doubles you add will add another 1.4 single equivlents.

If you intend to run more than half your firepower as energy...most definitely DHS are worth the upgrade.

DHS is even useful for ballistic builds. My Ilya Muromets literally has one DHS and it never ever ever overheats.
