The 3F is the only stalker with an 85degree torso twist.
The rest are all 60degree.

Thus if anyone really wants to brawl with a stalker I'd suggest the 3F.

The 5M is my ride of choice. Seriously it has taken over as my main mech right now. Just please don't brawl in a Stalker. The secrets are out, you will start to have a bad day soon if you do.

Beaten to the punch.

The 5S is a great mech, just ditch the 255xl for a standard

The 3F, 3H and 4N are all strictly inferior to the 5S and 5M (they all have fewer hardpoints)

I've been hearing that from almost every person, why ditch the XL since repair costs are gone the way of Osama?

Fudge, that smaller torso twist movement is a killer, literally.... What the fark is the point of owning a stalker if your not gonna brawl with it? Don't tell me how to pilot my mechs...

So you use a catapult (the siege weapon not the mech lol) for close range combat do you?

1) Side torso fragility

2) Sometimes you really need those extra crit slots for two more DHS more than you need the extra tonnage.

Since trying out the joys of having 2 AMS protecting me on the 5S, I don't think I can go back to just 1 now

Is that confirmed? I only own the 3F so far - it the torso-thing is true, I chose the right one :D

If the Stalker side-torso hitboxes were hidden like the Catapult's, then an XL might be feasible. But they're not. They can be hit from the front. Besides which (as mentioned) you'll probably want those 6 crit slots for a couple more DHS. With the amount of weapon hardpoints the Stalkers have, it's a shame to not put weapons in every one of them. :D

I happened to choose the 3F as my first Stalker to purchase O.o

I put the large lasers in the arms though, so I can fire down from steep cliffs, over hills and ridges.
AS for the rest I replaced the LRM 10s with LRM 5s which and used the rest for extra ammo and heatsinks.
With an endo steel upgrade I ran out of space and used the last tons to upgrade the engine.

I guess I'll try the 5M after this one, but I might have a hard time with the torso twist.

The only "advantages" I see for using a variant with less hardpoints is to limit options to make room for more heatsinks/ammo.
Those are not real advantages though, 3F is a good all round Stalker.

Keep in mind though that even with more heatsinks this mech can run quite hot, I have seen many enemy Stalkers overheat around me because they don't know when to fire and when to not fire.

A tip around overheating is to fire less heat generating weapons in between, in a cycle.
Once you get a feel for the heat limits of your mech you'll know just how much you can shoot before you need to cooldown.

I've personally got a 5M and a 5S fitted as follows:
5M: 2x PPC 2x ERPPC 5x SSRM2 TAG
5S: 4x LRM15 4x MedLas 1xTAG

They seem to work.

Where are you getting this from? Not doubting you, just looking for conformation. I haven't seen anyone else claim this, or be able to confirm or deny it. Thanks for the information in advance.

One of the devs gave the 60degree info. Testing of the 3F has verified 85degrees for it.
Both have been verified by reading the game files directly.

For the record, the -4N has ONE redeeming quality: the arm-mounted missile hardpoints get 20 tubes, meaning you can fire an LRM 20 in one salvo instead of two, which helps with burst, DPS and overwhelming AMS.

Quite happy, actually; I'll just use my ACs to crit your gauss and watch you pop.

This is great news. I was concerned the 3F, which is inferior on paper to the 5S (same hardpoints + additional AMS), would be a waste. I may pick it up now.

In the game files the 3f has 85 degrees of torso twist vs the 65 available to all others
seems to have its own nice lil place in my Bay =3

I like my 3F so far, it balances nicely and can throw on some extra armor if you get endosteel internals.

YES. Please Stalker pilots, use an XL engine. NOTHING bad will happen. I have no ulterior motive.
