I do prefer 4 man teams actually, but then you can go back and search and find the places where I said I didn't think I was a tryhard enough to hang with the 8man uberbros.
Seems to be fewer munchkin teams in the 4man bracket too.

Yesterday I played about 30 games, the first 5 were a group of 4, then some friends of the guys I was with showed up and we played 8 mans, I wasn't too sure about the idea since I'm not a big fan of "you must use X to succeed" mentality of highly competitive 8 man teams. But there were not many other groups around so dropping out would have stopped them and me from playing, so instead I stayed quiet and joined in.
We played about 7-8 matches of 8v8 and we won all of them, now that isn't because of me, I'm fair to average, the guys I was with were pretty good with or without me. The teams we kept beating eventually quit looking, possibly through frustration of always losing (I wouldn't blame em!). Then we queued up 6 times in a row with a "failed to find a match" result over 30 minutes of looking but not playing. It was clear when we started 8 mans there were a few teams but because I lucked out in a team of awesome sauce that made me look cool purely standing in the same group as them, they all left and we were the only 8 man lfg.
So after trying to get more matches we eventually divided up into 4 man teams and went back to fighting other 4 man teams and or pugs. Over the course of the day i think we lost a single match due to some crashes and disconnected pug team members.
My point is people won't queue if they keep getting beat, you can take a couple of losses on the chin but several starts eating away at your willingness to keep trying. People remember losing in 8 mans and unless you're really good, or like me really lucky you will sooner or later choose not to do that thing that makes you feel bad. 4man teams are pretty fun providing it really is a 4 man team and not an 8 man team in two 4mans sync dropping, that's just cheap.
ECM created a divide between the hardest of the hardcore who build their 8man with specific roles and builds and strategies, if you want to form an 8 man for "fun" you're **** out of luck, because bringing what you want in an 8 man and not competing with a serious face and an angry snarl will mean you probably lose and why keep losing when you can 4 man and win? even if you don't win 4mans all the time you probably do win at least half the time.
It makes sense, it's just a shame people who aren't in teams feel farmed and persecuted because of it. Because I've watched plenty of decent solo players, who could easily beat me.
My suggestion would be to prevent two 4 man teams joining a single side of a Pug game, enforce a minimum of 4 Pugs per side, this prevents sync dropping completely and gives every team the chance to face an enemy on more equal footing.

The dev's need to decide who to cater to. Other than the diehards I guess the teams will be the one who pay money to play. The singles will probably not stick around for long unless they have respawn games cause at the moment 3 min game steam rolls aren't fun.

Man, if we got 8, we drop 8. 8 mans are all that matter and the only really enjoyable part of the game until CW. PUGS are for when nobody else is on.

I know it may be a news flash, but many of us actually just run the 2-4 mans because we don't have 5-8 online at the time.
SHOCKING! I know.

Yes, please, or at least drop an equal volume of premade players on each side. If one side is double four man, the other side should be too.
I really have no issue with premades in my PUG games, I just wish that the matchmaker was more effective than a drunken monkey at balancing teams.

I steamroll when with friends, or solo. It doesn't matter. If I'm playing around noonish EST I'm probably with friends, after 5pm EST I'm solo... yet the results are the same.
Sorry, not going to play the clanner route and go with only half my weapons. I'm coming at you all with everything I've got. I may seem like a 4 man premade, but I'm usually solo. Stop making threads about it.

As I suspected, the 8 man queue has already started to wind down since people are realizing it contains the occasional REALLY GOOD TEAMS that have been doing too much mechwarrior since 15 years ago.
It is no longer the "get 8 people and absolutely curbstomp everyone" option, and since there is NO REAL QUEUE, you cannot just sit there and wait for someone to show up.
4mans is the new curbstomp scene, and most of the people who we all knew were going to go back to curbstomping are there. There is no reason to name names or be a jerk, we knew some people were after easy wins and constant revenue. Some people were honestly here to only play against "competition teams."
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of "competition teams" in this open beta, so most of them will spend a lot of time doing nothing.

LOL.... The reason so many teams are still doing 4 mans is 8 mans suck with the current state of ECM.... It has become who can use the most ECM mechs.. Believe it or not many of us like using mechs other then a Raven,Commando, Cicada or Atlas.
I don't care if you learn to play.. If someone is to stupid to at least use in game chat to call targets I have no problem shooting them

......and the matchmaker with no tonnage limits or anything to prevent the OPFOR from showing up in a Steiner scout lance.

There should be a 100% premade-free, PUG only queue.
