I just experimented with my 5M's double sinks and it reached the same heat efficiency rating with 10 heatsinks with no engine and 10 engine heatsinks only.

Are you sure? I thought they 'fixed' the engine heatsinks down to all 1.4.
Anyway, my 5S uses a grand total of 40 single heatsinks. I have only one critical slot left. It's probably better off using singles.

In your case, either way you are most definitely better off with SHS. (Very curious to see what your build is).
However, DHS are still operating at 2x for the 10 engine heat sinks, that has not changed.

The calculation is equal for doubles in and out of engine, Try it with 2 mechs with 14 heatsinks in one, 10 from engine in the other, the one with 10 engine doubles will cool down far faster.

I put 16 DHS in my 5S and it works good enough, you would need 29 SHS to counter that.
I have a std300 engine with 12 (10+2) DHS in the engine.

This is what I was trying to say
But these two mechs would show the same efficiency in the mechlab.
