Just curious, but this game really needs it. If nothing else it'll give a little bit of damage and maybe some heat so all the head butting we see will have some consequences of possibly shutting down for a bit from the heat. There should be some kinda risk if you blow a guy up when he's right next to you.

EDIT
MODS: Delete this, there are other threads like this one.

SUch style explosions were a rarity unlike certain games and novels claimed. There will be no such explosions from mechs.

"Core breach! Get out of there!"

Yeah, there should be a small chance of a core breach whenever a mech is destroyed by engine damage.
Players already say a mech killed like that is "cored" :)

You are standing next to a Tank and it and it's store of explosive shells explode, but you magically escape injury? I don't think so.

And I want occasional/rare core breaches. I don't care if it's Stackpoling and not TT, it has become as much a part of the expected MechWarrior experience as lasers and Mad Cats. It's absence from MWO is a big flaw and a missed chance to make new fans of the game. You know core breaches would have a reinforcing effect on realism and add to the suspension of disbelief. Just an occasional core breach, doesn't have to do splash damage, just screw-up everyone's sensors for a few seconds.

Fusion reactors are not fission reactors, they don't blow up, they shut down.

thats bull a mech should blow up if hit at the right critical spot. If an Engine on a car can blow up or catch a car on fire
then I know a Mech would.

Yes. A thousand times yes. Also, AoE. [ducks] @OP make this a poll and be unique.

You watch too much Hollywood movies. An engine explosion isn't and explosion, cars rarely ever explode even when burning and the one that do sit there for quite a long time before ever getting to an explosion, if that.

Not to much movies at all If its possible its possible. If you use a missle the blow up a car, not only will the missle explode it will cause a chain reaction with the car and thus the car will also blow up.

Fusion reactors DO NOT explode, this suggestion would actually detract from realism. Get your facts straight, they only stop working when "damaged".

Not really, the explosion would be all missile and the car would just be burning for a bit. Theres hundred of thousand of car accidents yet you never hear of one ever exploding no matter how violent the crash was.

Actually there was a car that exploded on I-95 a couple of weeks ago. I saw pieces of the car in the road and stuff and it was still on fire when I was going 2 the movies. Was on the news. Lucky no one was hurt. That SUV was toasted tho. But your probably right now that I think about it probably would be all missle.

The Tokamek fusion reactor would just shut down although there is the chance of a non-fusion explosion also they say. Then again, they can barely get Tokamek to run.

I think it is wild speculation to think a fusion reactor on the back of a 31st century 'Mech would always shutdown safely when pierced by explosions and lasers. Venting of superheated plasma would appear about the same as the core breach in the MWO preview video from 2009. The fusion event itself is very hot, in spite of all the cold fusion mumbo-jumbo.

The fuel supply exploded then because the fail safes that were in place were compromise. Further the explosion was probably a lot less than you think it was. Typical fuel explosions in cars are pretty small and may blow some pieces off, but tend to become just puffs of flame rather than explosions.

Fusion engines explode in the same way, if all the fail safe fail when breached a simple puff of flame, that is it. It doesn't even release radiation as the radiation stay in the mech.

Going by lore it does pretty much always shut down. The only explosion type thing that can happen on a breached is a big puff of flame from some air being super heated extremely fast. Without a breach (which is even rarer) you get maybe a boiler explosion. Nothing huge.

So you want your Pilot to be killed? I mean if your Mech explodes and your inside. Splat. New pilot means you have to relearn all your "Pilot Skills", Doesn't sound like fun to me... Guess you can just delete your Mechs too.

OK ignoring that, I think while an occasional Mech explosion might be cool, like they had in LL, it would have to be very random. your more likely to get something from the Ammo explosions then from the engine going up.

I'm looking forward to the artillery cannons myself, alongside the binary laser cannon.
Artillery cannons are supposed to be hard to aim(maybe make them fire in arcs like lrm do) and deal lower direct damage than ac but have a half damage splash zone for their hex(30 meters wide, 15 meter diameter) weigh more than ac and use up many more slots.

No.

What do you consider missile explosive damage then?

6000 degree kelvin plasma would be a bright quickly expanding cloud. You would have to eject to survive. Of course the ejection part could be an auto-played defeat vid. White hot heat to the human eye is at about 3000 k, or at least white hot molten steel is.
