Have to admit, I don't understand the outpouring of high praise for the Orion. The art is very well executed, but the mech itself looks kind of old and busted. Maybe that fits the lore, and if so, great job on that--it makes the game more interesting to have a mix of tech levels across history. However, could we get a new mech that looks cool in and of itself? And does things no other mech does right now? Like maybe this one:

I've seen the Mauler in the ISN newsfeed a couple times, so I know you want to. Right after the Clans invade would be great!

The Orion was originally constructed in the 25th century, and the more recent IIC was brought in around the 29th. This mech wasn't designed to instil fear in the enemy, it was just ment to simply work. Its strong at any given range, and some of the best have piloted this mech with satisfaction.

The Mauler is one of my favorite assaults, and by the pattern going there should be one more assault for mech #20, but the Highlander already fits the 90 ton bracket. That's not to say this means they wouldn't add another 90 ton mech, but it depends on what the devs want to add next. They may find it more important to put something in the 95 ton slot.

I hate the Mauler, only mech that's a larger target than the current Awesome.

Those missile pods count as side torsos, good luck trying to stay alive under fire. Neither me, or my AI Merc company could stay alive in that deathtrap.

Yikes. Here I was worried it would be OP with 4 ballistic hardpoints.

I'm just waiting for the inevitable Banshee: not because I like or dislike it but because it seems to be the only 95-ton IS mech with enough variants at this point in the timeline to get into the game.

5 tons isn't much difference in an assault, and I really like the hardpoints and the look of the Mauler. I kind of dislike the air of inevitability around the "Next mech announcements" thread. It seems like people are trying to be right, rather than rooting for their favorite mechs. I may one day work up the courage to start the thread, "'Next mech announcements': stunningly accurate predictions, or self-fulfilling circlejerk?" and then get flamed to death.

Which mechs would you want to see if you're not excited about the Banshee?

Edit: grammar.

@ colorado
Wyvern and Black Knight: the hard points seem solid and mainly I want to see if they would end-up keeping the more curved more-humanoid body shapes.

It's not just the 5 tons. It's the fact the Banshee has a 380 XL engine, or a 380 in the original.

Not just a 95, but a fast 95.

Pretty much any lore fan would tell you and Sarna would sumarize:

The Orion has long been favored as a command 'Mech, and was notably the preferred 'Mech of Aleksandr Kerensky. Centuries later, this same mech was found and piloted by Theodore Kurita until its destruction on Marfik during the Fourth Succession War. Sometime after this, the cockpit from this same mech was put on display at a museum on Solaris.

That sounds cool, and I really like that concept. But 400 is the engine ceiling, so it can't get much faster than stock. A Highlander (or Mauler, woo hoo! :)) with a 325 can hit that same 65 kph, so it wouldn't be as interesting for me personally unless we get oversized engines. Trial Banshees would be quick though. Not trying to knock it, there are other reasons to like a mech than specs for sure. In the Orion's case, it sounds like it has a lot of history that adds to its appeal.

I don't like the Mauler,It's too big and too vulnerable.... If I need to choose between the Mauler and Orion,well...Orion win with a mile(or more).

The Devs want to add a mech every 2 weeks as a goal instead of a mech a month. Expect there to be MW2:Merc level amounts of IS mechs in this game before they even think about Clan invasion stuff. So you're likely to get your wish but not soon.

This thing would be instantly converted into a Duel AC20, 2LLaser monster.
