This is not about how TAG works vs ECM, or how it works with missiles, this is just about the module itself.

Personally, i don't like how it occupies an energy slot. I've got an (unsubstantiated) feeling that having it replace a weapons means it enjoys limited use outside of pre-mades.

So, I propose making it a general equipment item (think BAP) in that it can go on any mech, and not cost a weapon slot. It might possibly need bumping to 1t or 0.5t but two crits to make this balance.

Pros;

More tagging in general
Less of a 'hnnng not sure' choice for laser-dependant mechs

Cons;

Might make existing fits with TAG harder to fit
Might make LRM boats slightly more effective

Post!

Tag is fine the way it is. It occupies laser because it is a laser. People who put tag either use it or don't. No need to change it.

I don't think your post actually ended up saying anything other than no?

Tag is fine the way it is. It is a tremendous asset for any team and should cost an energy slot. Letting everyone run around with a tag is one step away from letting everyone run around with an ECM. If you question whether to trade a laser for a tag, then you are clueless about how good tag actually is atm and should not mount tag.

Also, you poll is bs. Potato? Really?

Potato is the "undecided" vote, it is a running joke.

Voted "no", making mechs give up a laser slot for TAG is working as intended. In the last day or so I've seen LRM boats (Stalkers) get into the 1000-1200 damage range at the finish of a match a couple different times...pilots/mechs like that don't really seem to need more help making their mechs better at this time.

Tag freaking rocks for LRM boats now. I see more every day since the patch. IF you think its not strong enough, your team hasnt been rolled by a scout behind tagging your whole team yet.

Voted No, almost potato.

No because the item itself is exactly how it should be. One ton, one slot, uses energy point, 450m range.

I wanted to vote potato because the changes TAG needs you are ruling out for the pole. Its relation to ECM and how it directs missiles. I am also hungry.

Mashed or a baked potato with cheese, sourer cream, butter, garlic and green onions or leeks sounds really good right now.

The 750m range buff to TAG, its targeting ability, and requirement of line of sight makes it rather powerful and engaging on Artemis LRM boats. I don't mind giving up an energy slot because LRM boats rarely rely on their energy fallback weapons, and most Heavy+ boats already have enough energy slots to not care.

what TAG really needs is a toggle switch to turn it on or off.

Tag is fine the way it is. Granted it's still not widely used in PUG groups but what can you do.
I tried to vote no, but you know.

First, it's a weapon, not a module. As to why it takes up an Energy hardpoint... that's because it's an Energy weapon.

The Tag doesn't need any changes... we just need other balance changes, specifically with the ECM and BAP.
