Currently there's not much incentive to being a commander or following what a commander says.

Anybody can shout a tactic, or attempt to control a PUG team with varying degrees of success.

Why not give incentive to issuing/following orders?

The Commander as they can now put way points down such as defend and attack. Any enemy 'mechs destroyed net the Mechwarrior's who followed the order get a GXP bonus

Not only that but bring back Lance leaders. The Commander also being one. The Lance leader has the option when targeting a 'mech to broadcast that target to their lance. Any 'mech within that Lance that has an assist and kill will net a GXP bonus as well.

I'm sure there would be a way to add spotting bonuses to this.

I'm using the FRAGO system from MAG as a reference. But I'm sure one of the Battlefields uses a similar feature < Played 2142 quite a few years ago.

I suppose there is an opportunity for causing grief by ordering your team to a ridiculous part of the map, or intentionally try get them killed. But hopefully the bonus would be enough of a lure to want to use it effectively.
