So far I have been impressed with the in game renditions of the mech models in MWO... until the stalker came along. Let's do some image comparisons:

MWO

My conclusions:

MWO Problem 1 - The torso is waaay too short from nose to body. The trademark of the mech's appearance is the long, torpedo shaped "nose". The MWO stalker has a stubby nose, closer in profile to the catapult.

MWO Problem 2 - Legs are too bulky and similar looking to the catapult. Gives the appearance of a wide, bottom heavy mech. The battletech stalker is decidedly "top heavy" looking with more slender looking legs. The stalker also appears to have unique "dual-jointed" knees, rather then the "reverse jointed" knees seen in the MWO version.

MWO Problem 3 - Overall scale of the mech seems off. Weighing in at 85 tons, yet it is just about the size of a catapult. Although it is supposed to have a lower profile then a humanoid mech of its size would, it is rather apparent that the mech is too shrunken for its mass.

MWO problem 4 - Combining 1, 2 and 3, the Stalker in MWO basically looks like a slight modification of the Catapult, instead of a completely unique chassis as it is supposed to. In fact, from every angle but straight on, it is rather easy to mistake the two, especially from the rear, and from a distance. It should be overly clear that you are looking at a stalker when you see one compared to a catapult.

MWO Problem 5 - When piloting the stalker, you can barely see the nose in front of you from the cockpit because it is closer to the drop off point at the nose. In reality, you should be able to see a great deal of torso in front of you when viewing from the cockpit, (like the dragon, only much more).

You mean pretty far from the pictures he posted.

Its constructive feedback, chill out.

Stalker with dual jointed knees and giant torso is what makes it 'uniquely ugly.'

with the exception of the tactics version the MWO stalker looks better than any of the rest.

most of them look like something you would find in a jawa sand crawler.

I'd rather have that then a Catapult knockoff like we have now.

yes there is a vague similarity to cats, but anyone who is confused even by the side on view from 800m is frigging blind.

the version they have implemented actually looks like a weapon of war instead of the hindenberg with legs strapped to it.

The MW:T one looks ok...but the originals just look like a long terd being squeezed out of a square buddhole.

I like the MW:O version best.

IMO those look less like "Unique dual jointed knees" and more like the artist didn't know how to draw legs right. Both those miniatures look, to me, like they are in the process of falling over backwards. At least the MWO version looks like it's center of mass is over it's legs. There's only so much a gyroscope can do.

The only thing I could agree wih is the size should be a bit larger.

As for the rest (interview with FD/AI long ago):
"MWO: Are there any Mechs you can't wait to redesign? Why?

AI: I really want to redesign the Mechs with bizarre legs that seem to defy physics in some sense, like the Stalker or Black Python, in order to fix the problem. Aside from that, basically any historically awkward or generic looking Mech that has usually been overlooked in favour of the cool looking ones, I’d love to polish them up, and bring out the cool factor for them."

Now, if they could introduce a new Marauder and Warhammer that didn't look like a Japanime ripoff that'd be freakin' sweet.

Mechwarrior tactics model looks pretty cool, but damn I am extremely glad the stalker does NOT look like a ***** or a blimp with legs.

Its an extremely disappointing model in many ways.

Size, shape, detail and design. Really don't like any of those elements.

Everything else about it is fine ... lol.

I have to agree, i noticed it is similarily the same size as the catapult. Look at the two of them, the catapult seems more capable of holding more in terms of weapons and equipment than the stalker. I dont know the battletech lore all that well. But is the stalker supposed to be smaller than the atlas and awesome or similar in size?

To each their own. Some just don't like the way the MWO Stalker currently looks, me included. And that's just putting it politely.

and To Mayhem: Its exactly how the originally concept BT artist envisioned it. Will they ever change or add the Mechs that had disjointed or odd looking legs? -> Probably not, since the MWO Concept Artist wants them to look different.

The Stalker miniature models are probably some of my favs. Yeah, it looks damn ugly, but I could care less. Its ugly in a good way, the MWO Stalker is just plain odd to me.

Um...
In the third picture of the original (the one with the '21' on its side)...where is the cockpit? I mean, I always wondered in BT where it was, becausue in the other pictures you can kind of see where it would be, but...not that one.
I mean...that thing on the top looks more like a vent.
