OP Great Idea, I love the modeling you did, I really appreciate what you did there.
Mechs are roughly human shaped in some cases so I am going to use human physics for this next part. Please don't get ridiculous on the physics of a giant mech game people. but....
The first time I fired a 10 gauge shotgun I was 10 and I weighed 100 pounds. I held it tight to my shoulder but my feet weren't right so it knocked me over, all of the men laughed. My father took the gun from me and gave me a 12 gauge Same results, He gave me a 20 gauge and I kept my footing. So after a few more shots I learned how to hold my footing and compensate for firing the gun by turning my base and using my shoulder and upper body to absorb the blow while using my legs to anchor myself. Once I understood this my father gave me back the 10 gauge and I fired it, albeit not as easily without being blown over.
A hunchback should be able to mount a stupidly long gun and fire it both accurately and without being blown backwards by using it's legs to hold itself up. Picture it as a 10 year old me.
At 29 I can fire those guns no problem because I have increased both my mass and my strength.
Picture this version of me as an atlas.

Is this suggestion dead? I think think it is a very good idea.
Well, the Devs have confirmed that visual variety by weapon placement, on hard points, will slowly make its way into the game. It depends on what the art/modeling team is able to finish. I imagine much of it is still in concept, since it involves changing hitboxes.
Basically its not a high priority, but its on the list.

Absolutely negative. I don't like the flexibility, or even laxity, current hardpoint system allows for eager Mech' autopsists. I surely would like to see visual representation of made customization, but I don't want to see extremal boating builds allowed. MW4 hardpoints system is more optimal for MWO, in my opinion.

I would be happy to see visual indicators of weapons on mech visuals in-game rather than just waiting on display info. I would be happy if the models showed long barrels for gauss and sizing changes for AC barrels

The Jagermech is the first to empliment this idea. I love it!!! All the Autocannons, look different and even the gauss, Want 4 MGs on the arms?? there you go and they even look like MGs!!! Great job Dev's !!!
