Nitehawk,Neh,Crash, lightnin,Ironman all did a great job back in the day. It has been so long I just want to drop with my friends again. It is good to see everyone back. I always tried to say out of the politics it got to crazy at times, the person name the lance leader on the field at the time, is the one I will follow, hoping sometime that is me, lol, FEAR THE EAGLE!

Stayed out of the politics too, beside my horses usually lost in that game so I stayed a simple warrior for the House. :)

Not sure If I'm going to run with House Marik or go Merc yet, but this should be fun. Col. that was in (in this order if I recall correctly) 8th Orlorff-->13th Marik Militia-->21st Centari Lancers from the GEnie days here. Ended my GEnie carrer with the ComGuards merc unit.

I just want to have fun and wreak havoc. Cant recreate the old days but maybe we can get a glimpse of those credit card roasting days. :)

Late 96 if memory serves me, don't recall the exact date but we were working on MPBT Solaris on GS and AOL at the time.

I just missed being in that list, as I was only a Lt Col and an RCO at the time. :-)

I didn't even join House Marik until 19 or 20 months after that list was recorded. But about 6 months after, I spent a considerable amount of time working for the house as a merc. About a 3rd of my pilots were from Steiner and they were pissed that we kept taking so many contracts with Marik (we did work for every house at some point), but honestly, it was because Ito made sure that Marik offered us the most in times of war. Steiner always refused to offer anything at all, which was strange, since they have all the money right? Well, actually Steiner and Davion enjoyed very comfortable positions in EGA due to a handful of cheats that they managed to keep to themselves until shortly before Gamestorm became the priority. The rest of us just had to rise to the occasion, if we wanted to see the map turn purple, which we did, often, much to the distress of those who believed it was "their" game. <EG>

Howdy,

You know you are old when your wife plays ABBA "dancing queen" and you catch yourself singing along!

A little humor for the old timers out there. Remember, if anyone ever tells you "anytime" when it comes to a product, run like hell or go postal with your favorite needler pistol.

To all the postal carriers out there, please forgive me for my crude reference.

My vote is for Marik Militia. Not only because was it my first command in House Marik (and Im not claiming command of anything with this post!), but the word Militia indicates a group who lives life on standby, ever awaiting the call to arms, and if that doesnt describe us (many of us on standby for 15 years now), then what does?

Howdy,

I think the Marik Militia would be a perfect place for us to lay our heads. Even though my first posting was with the Defender of Andurien the Militia is a perfect substitute.

You have my vote.

How does the 1st Marik Militia sound? It has a great history and it did a number on the DoA during the war.

The three most prestigious Marik Militia regiments are the 1st (The Avenging Angels), 6th (The Keystone Yeomanry) and 10th (the Hammers). The latter two are particularly heavy-weight, well equipped, are allowed to retain their best people (Marik Militia units in general tend to get filled with academy grads, who are then poached by other regiments). Finally those 3 are among the most active, with offensive/planetary assault specialties.

The 1st Marik Militia is regarded as the flagship regiment of that collection of regiments.

Honestly when I think of "Old Guard" regiments within the FWLM, the Orloff Grenadier regiments come to mind. Traditionally, acceptance into the Grenaders was a rare privilege. You had to have at least 5 years service in the FWLM, and have either a Distinguished Service Award or be a member of the Order of the Saber. Induction into the unit involves a secret initiation ceremony in which new members pledge never to fight against the regiment or House Orloff in battle. Some of these traditions were stripped away in 3046 with the Military Reorganization Act under Thomas Marik's reforms but others just went "underground", like the initiation ceremony, and continue to exist in 3050. The Grenadiers have done all that they can to preserve their traditions and status. I always felt like with the Orloff Grenadiers you were joining a Knight order, fraternity, or becoming a Freemason, something along those lines.

Also each Orloff Grenadier regiment is very different in atmosphere, giving you some options. The 1st Grenadiers, assigned to Vanra, are a good combat unit but mostly parade around all day (when there isn't a war on). Vanra's culture emphasizes proper behavior, and the upper class live like European royalty of the Tudor days. There is a lot of horseriding and hunting and dances and even sword duels.

By comparison the 6th and 8th Grenadiers have spent most of their history out near the periphery and are much more rough and tumble, known for belching whenever they darn well please and bragging about dishing out frontier justice.

Don't forget that the Orloff Grenadiers also have many graduates of the Orloff Military Academy, who get a ceremonial dirk upon graduation that they can wear on their uniform, it marks them as an Orloff graduate and collectively all those graduates are widely known as the "Orloff Mafia" because so many of them end up in senior posts throughout the FWLM.

I might also recommend the 5th Brigade of the Fusiliers of Oriente. Better known as Boltan's Rangers, they have a history going back to the Star League when they were the independent 208th Hussar Regulars. Many of the unit's members can trace their history back to those origins. The regiment is also known for its Star League era-tech library. its insignia is the old Star League Cameron Star and the regiment uses old Star League parade color schemes. It doesn't get much more "Old Guard" than that unless you look to the Northwind Highlanders and Eridani Light Horse.

Howdy,

Two other units that I have always liked have been the 21st Centauri Lancers (merc but always loyal) or the Free Worlds Guards the cream of the crop goes here.

I for one would rather keep this unit within the boarders of House Marik or in general within the League like the Free Worlds Guards and away from the other like House Orloff, Stewart, Oriente or any other league member.

But this as all things pertaining to our FWL is always up for debate.

I thought we already came to the conclusion that it is unwise to plan to use any existing house units because they will be part of the the game.

Yea, TPTB pretty much laid out the fact we cannot use or "Take Ownership" of canon names. We might be able to join those units though, but that is to be seen. Why not start up an old timers merc unit that is loyal to HM, kinda like how the 21st Centari Lancers are. Just have to com up with a clever name like the GEnie Gamestormers...or something corny like that :-)

Howdy,

I am game for that, now trying to come up with the name. As we all know Marik has never been one take pick anything without an arguement. I have never been one that comes up with names that are worth spit so, glad we never had kids, any old timer who has another idea for a name please by all means spit it out.

How about a real canon fraternal order exclusively made up of oldtimers, that are loyal to House Marik, but it doesn't have any units, so isn't likely to be in the game?

If only I could think of one...
