That's my exact build as well. Tried a lot of other builds but that was the most effective by far for me at least. It cools quickly but alpha striking will still spike your heat up quickly. I generally alpha strike until mid hot, then I fire one weapon group of 2 large lasers and then follow it with the second firing group of 2 large lasers. If I'm really hot, I'll use the 3rd weapon group which just cycles through all the lasers one at a team. Learning to downgrade your firing groups as the mech gets hotter is paramount to playing this build well, but it is great for targeting and destroying specific mech parts (I like to leg mechs).

Yes! It's all about accuracy so you can deal damage strategically, and this has got it (at a pretty long range, too).

I was already sold on the build, but yesterday I had an insane match where I was left alone with four opponents and killed them all thanks to my strong alpha, unlimited ammo and good range.

1,191 damage
5 kills
3 assists
1,207 XP

Fantastic build. Makes the rest look like garbage.

Flame is fun. Have 2 builds I go between, re-runs of similar ones already mentioned here:

Gauss(20rds), SRM4(100rds), 4xML (tried 2xMPL, 2xSL but not as good)

or

UAC5(75rds), SRM4(100rds), 4xMPL (when hot the MPL make a perfect continuous chain to cool a bit)

340XL in both (101kph with speed tweak), with DHS (11 and 13 respectively I think), Endo and Ferro. All slots used. I've dropped AMS because I always duck for cover or dive beneath a buddy's umbrella anyway. I have lost the Gauss several times without it killing me, so it's not an instant death sentence. SRM4 seems way better than SSRMs as you can fire and jink behind the smokescreen without a lock delay.

Not sure which of these I like better. Already run a 4xLL Phract 3D but will try one of those sometime too.

Way too much armor IMO. With your big honking CT almost no one aims for the legs in my experience and you can always use more ammo or speed.

There are people that go for legs, it's rare though. But even so, I've died to side torso loss before and have lost arms fairly often. So I wouldn't want less armor those places, there's no free space for ammo. So the only thing would be upgrading the engine, an XL340 would be less than a 5kph upgrade and cost ~1.8 tons ferro armor. To take that all off the legs would be crazy. I guess going with a 330 engine would be a loss of only ~0.3 tons leg armor so that would be perfectly fine if you have that kinda money to buy custom engines for each mech.

I run something similar. Instead of Steak and ammo though I have XL 350 (103.9km/h with tweak) and 4 tons of Gauss ammo because 3 tons wasn't quite cutting it. Removed armour from legs and a bit from head (never died from head shot or been legged yet.

Before when I had 3 tons Gauss ammo I capped out around 900ish dmg and since 4 tons I am now able to achieve over 1K damage. Others may have different experience or way to play, but the way I play I would never run with only 2 tons of Gauss ammo, why do I need a streak when I can 4/mlas and occasionally peg with the Gauss while running as fast as many lights.

Just some different options to consider.

Also I tried the 4/LL and wasn't crazy about it. My Atlas RS run 4xllas with a Uac5, SRM6, and SRM 4 and when I'm firing the LLAS I don't really need the speed of a dragon so why not have more armour and firepower?

Maybe others are able to make a faster moving LLAS setup that fits their playstyle. Do you brawl with 4xLLAS or mostly shoot from 300+m out?

I try to fire from a distance that's advantageous (far from an SRM 'pult, within 180m of an LRM boat, etc).

However, I'm a brawler at heart and often let myself be drawn to 200m distance. Match I was just in, I almost died to a Muromets because of that. Fortunately they used small ACs and never turned away; since I can turn between alphas I was able to take a lot more damage than they did and killed them. Brawls aren't ideal but you can still pull more than your weight thanks to the LLs' accuracy.

Played strategically, it's really good.
