im wondering if i can put ecm on a commando so that way i dont spend 6 mill on raven 3l unless its totally worth-it

COM-2D can equip ECM. Welcome to Club Cheese. Make sure you slap some streaks on that puppy.

Commando is very squishy though, so if you REALLLLLLY want an ECM light, go raven.

Also right out of the stables the raven needs some stuff before becoming effective, you'll need another 5 million to get an XL engine (a good one).

thx piemaster but what would you do get the raven or the commando?
i just want the commando because its cheap (and it has three missile slots)

I first bought the COM-2D, it can be effective against other lights 1vs1, but get caught by a pack and you stand no chance. I then went to the dark side and bought a raven, I like it more because it has the armor of a Jenner but the ECM of the commando, my very first mech was the jenner so I liked the raven more than the commando.

Commando has the 3 missile slots, yes, but its a paper tiger. Raven is more durable but is much more expensive.

IF you go commando you just have to keep in mind you CAN'T be in one place for very long, because you can't afford to get damaged.

The Commando is cheap... Until you decide to upgrade it:
1.7M for the 'mech itself.
3.2M for an XL195 engine
1.5M for Double Heat Sinks
400k for ECM
250k for Endo-Steel
90k for the SSRM-2 launchers
108k for 2 tons of SSRM ammo
80k for a Medium Laser or 100k for a TAG

That's well over 7 million.

On the other hand, the asking price of a stock RVN-2L is 5.8 million...

Commando 2D builds without double heat sinks are very doable, though they suffer problems on caustic valley. ECM 2Ds are very effective against most lights and mediums though they chew through ammo hitting heavies and assaults. Dueling another 2D is a bit of a dice roll and the Raven 3L, unless piloted by an ***** or poorly outfitted, will kill the 2D without any chance to escape or fight back effectively.

COM-2D is considerably smaller so it's quite a bit harder to hit than the RVN-3L... In my opinion however (Having had both fully equipped in the cookie-cutter ECM builds... At least I had that build in my 3L before ECMs were even implemented!) is that the Raven is vastly superior. It's faster, has better armor, and even if your SSRMs are being jammed you still have 2-3 mlas or mplas to fight with. COM-2D has at best a single laser. Unless of course you equipped regular SRMs in your ECM scout, but who does that?

EDIT: The size difference is actually a liabililty if enemies are sweeping your legs with lasers, since the 2D has less armor than the 3L.
