How are you suppose to beat a wolf pack of 4 or more light ECM mechs who are using nothing more than streaks since that can't use anything else as they do not know how to aim?

3 matches in a row pugging you have a premade in the Streakamando with ECM's just destroying everything with hit and run tactics. The only viable way I can see to defeat this is to have just as many if not more in your won group to disrupt theirs so others can lock on.

Good luck getting that to happen in a PUG

Any ideas?

The main problem is that a premade team of 4 Trollmandoes will be matched with 4 other light mechs. Cue killing spree.

I think the best approach would be to wait until knockdown is reintroduced. I reckon we'll be seeing a lot less hit-and-run commando/light builds, seeing as so many seem to physically hit me and then run away

4 ECM streak commandos?

Yeah I ran into that bunch tonight too. Not fun. But like Alymbic said, that party isn't going to last forever.

Honestly, without a premade on your side that's geared to handle it, or a few good pugs with ECM to offset it...you might as well just take it on the chin and do your best.

PGI is working on it, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the match maker. But if this continues after phase three, then I think it might be time for PGI to consider placing restrictions on what groups can launch with when mixed with pugs. Meaning, a restriction on the number of ECM capable mechs, class restrictions, etc. to force more rounded teams...

...you can bet your behind I'll be pretty vocal about it then.

For now its just a waiting game for them to get around to fixing a known issue.

What is absolutely killing me about this at least one match all the carnage took place in the nice open river on forest colony. They were moving so fast I could not even keep my TAG on them at 400 meters, could not keep up with them. TAG is not an effective counter at this point.

Yeah I know. Never did understand why they increased TAG from half a ton to 1 ton.

How do you beat them? Lasers (unless you are good with ballistics) and teamwork.

First, you should have 4 lights on your team - they should be able to play the circle game with them and win.

If you have a team member with you, the first thing you need to do is stop. Circling will only get you killed. The best is getting back to back or if you can't do it for whatever reason, circle in opposite directions (watch the friendly fire!). Second, every time a little one gets behind you, your teammate should shoot it. You do the same for him. Commandos cannot take a lot of direct fire and the more you can get on target, the faster they will run away or die.

If you are alone - get to a friendly teammate as quickly as possible, otherwise, circle slowly being sure to mix the direction... figure 8 is a good way to start (but is very predictable). The idea is to get them out of their optimal position (which is behind you or to the side of you depending on your mech build) so you can fire at them. If you have arms, sometimes you can free look at them and hit them without your HUD (but it takes practice).

I hope this helps a bit. I know it can be frustrating but it is beatable if you aren't already badly damaged. It is also horribly annoying. I want collisions back so badly... :)

The tag is supposed to weigh 1 ton.

There isn't really a lot you can do except try to shoot your way out of it. I took a break from MWO round a month or more ago. I missed out on the introduction of ECM. Looking at the forums during my hiatus it seemed like the end of world. You know like ice comet impact, full nuclear exchange, Mayans forgot to make a new calendar, zombie apocalypse etc....

Once I got back into it I got a better idea of what it was like. While that lil' ECM commando or raven buzzing around me with was sure annoying. I have not been totally unable to shoot my way out of some of these scrapes using direct fire weapons. I tend to use mostly ballistic weapons, PPCs and pulse lasers. Around the same time i discovered what 4x AC/5s can do to the rear end of a Raven. Boy did that feel really good.

I lead with a dual gauss set up. When it connects, lights either retreat, or stay long enough to be downed by that next shot. Additionally, try to stay near teammates the entire match. That, to me, is the best equalizer. Four lights with ECM is certainly a pain but it's horrifying if you're alone. Remember, if there are no blue arrows around you, that pack of lights is looking for you.

Tough call: The Ravens are tougher, but only carry 2 streaks to the Commando's 3.

Not a tough call at all. The Raven-3Ls are better armored and have enough tonnage to mount additional lasers to make up for only having 2 missile hardpoints to the Commando's 3. Before ECM, a Jenner-D had little to fear from a Commando-2D, even though it only carries 2 missile hardpoints. The Commando just doesn't have the armor to soak up more than a few 10 point SSRM salvos and getting raked with medium lasers.

well dear darian, you could also stop tempting fate and drop in a medium weight class scout brawler instead of the dear jenner i know you love. simply choose cicada and your odds of getting an ecm enemy go from 2 in 3 to 1 in 3 from a chassis standpoint. the odds from a chassis*variant standpoint are even better by picking the cicada. no missiles, but a true grit gotta go fast killer doesn't rely on missiles anyway, right?

now this only applies in those 4 or less man or pugging scenarios. if you are having the issue with 8's, well... welcome to hell.

You have to pray that the rest of your team pays any attention if you yell for help, it's much easier for a team mate to shoot that circle strafing light from a distance than it is for you to shoot it up close. I always try to drag the light toward the rest of my group rather than try and out maneuver him if he's lagging / circling me.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

But in all seriousness, a lot of great advice here. Sometimes it takes luck and definitely keep with the pack, they can save your ***.

Arm reticule

Goodnight ravens you lose.
