My current 2X build. An obvious brawler. That ac/20 packs a huge punch up close. Same with the 2x SRM6's.

Cataphract 2X
* Std 300 Engine
* AC20 w/3 tons of ammo
* 2x SRM-6
* 3x Med-Las
* Max Armour or as close as possible
* Endo, DHS
*65 Alpha damage

Long range CTF-2X LRS
Cataphract 2X
* Std 300 Engine
* Gauss w/3 tons of ammo
* 1 LLas
* 2 LRM 10's + 3 tons ammo
* shaves leg armor
* Endo, DHS
*52 Alpha damage

This is a very drastic build change. Swapping out the med las with a large las in the right arm for starters. Additionally, swapping out the ballistics and missiles with long range rounds. This proposed build is quite the opposite of a brawler.

2 questions: is it detrimental to the team to have a Cataphract sit back and rain death?
And
Has anyone ever tried a long range ctf-2x? I've only seen brawler talk:-)
Just messing with configurations...

I use:
- 2 gauss rifles with 5! tons ammo (i shoot very excessive and if i ran out of ammo i only had the LLaser)
- 1 LLaser
- ams with 2tons ammo
- XLengine 210 (makes it as fast as assault mechs; momentarily i am saving money for a heavier engine and
will use 1 ton ams ammo less)
- heat efficiency at around 1.35 with three standard heat sinks (never had heat problems)
- full armour

Yesterday i faced an atlas without help and killed him with three alpha strikes at close combat.
In good matches i have around three kills and 4-5 kill assists
I really like this configuration, the only problem with this mech fighting at long distances are teammates running into my fireline.

Just to clarify CTF-2X has 1 ballistic slot. Are you using a 3D or a 4X perhaps?

I find LRMs to be very useful on the Cataphract 2X. My build is mostly short-ranged, but has a LRM-15 with a ton of ammo so I can damage targets at range and indirectly, so I can rack up c-bills on kill assists :)

I thought about using a gauss rifle and mounting 2 SRM-6s so I don't compromise my long-range capability, but the indirect fire advantage of the LRMs and being able to easily damage targets for kill assist points makes LRMs very hard to pass up, even though it isn't a primary weapon system.

Until I get an Orion, the Cataphract is going to be my primary heavy ;)

On mine i went a slightly different route.

x2 LRM15's x4 tons of ammo
x2 Med lasers
UAC5 x 3 tons of ammo.

I also from time to time drop one LRM15, pick up a SRM6 and switch out the UAC5 to a LB-10x

Carrion, cool build! I like it cuz it isn't completely inept in close quarters! I'll give it a whirl. I've never used LRM's before...
