I have only been playing for a few days, so plz correct anything you see, if it is false or inaccurate.

I saw a post on sniping with this Mech (2 gauss and 2 Med Las). So I wondered if I could make this build a little better imo, so it could stand a decent fight if you are in melee. So, I changed it slightly.

So my build:

2 gauss
4 med lasers
Xl250 engine
Structure upgrade
Heat upgrade
4 boxes of gauss ammo

Now, you notice I didn't take the armor upgrade. There simply was not enough slots to get both Heat and Armor upgrades. I chose heat instead for two reasons. This build does enough dmg to take out almost everyone close or at range. I also target weapon spots first as well (arms then upper torso) before I go for the torso or legs, then attack the exposed area. The second reason I chose heat over armor, is because in the elite section of your pilot lab, there is one ability that increases your rate of fire. You will need the heat reduction. On a normal map I can fire off 4-5 alphas on a target before shutting down. That is, if you aim well, 250 dmg total minus armor.

The armor upgrade instead of heat is also possible, you will have better survivabilty at the cost of less alphas before you exaust.

Currently, have all the basic pilot lab skills bought. With this set-up, unless I get attacked by 3-4 at once, does quite well. I can solo every mech in the game, except the fast mechs. That is not a problem with the build imo, but my skill as driver. Plz feel free to comment, I will not respond to trolls

I rolled this:

265XL
DHS
Endosteel

2x Gauss
5 tons gauss ammo
2x Mlas
2x Slas

Max torso armors and rear while lower leg and arm armor.

I rarely loose my arms as it is, and I tear things up, heat is just fine, 66.1kph with the 265XL engine giving you a little boost over stock 260STD or the lower 250 XL you took.

I would save the Quad Mlas for the AC/20 build that is designed for the brawlfest.

If you want even more speed go up to the 275XL or 280 and take only 2x Slas or 2x Mlas. 5 tons of Gauss ammo is enough in my opinion, I've only ever used up to a remaining 4 dual shots in drawn out games since I am choosing my shots with care.

Interesting thanks for your two cents, and ya 4 tons of ammo is fine for me. I have only ran out of ammo once, and that was when I was the last one alive against 4 other mechs. took out 3 of the four, but that damn 100 kph raven got me...lol

Nice concept, basically I would be giving up 10 dmg per volley for about 8 kph, that would help a lot for the faster mechs. Thank you.

I played around with a few configs including a classic gauss build and 4x large laser build (the X-Wing)... but the one that seems to be working best for me is the double AC/10 build

300xl
4 ML
2 AC/10 4t AMMO
12 DHS

Quite versatile, the AC/10s is shorter range and weaker than the gauss, but if you think of it as a way better AC/20 it works much better in that sense; longer range, faster rate of fire, faster projectile, and more ammo.

The MLs do a good job of softening up the mech before you hammer them with the 2x AC/10 rounds.

Damage:
  • Long: Medium
  • Medium: Devastating
  • Short: Devastating
Heat: Moderately Hot

Speed: Quick

superteds,

I've tried several times in the mechbay but I can't build a K2 like you posted. I run out of tonnage...?

Here you go: CPLT-K2

Seems to fit nicely just like he described, but the armor is a little too low for my preference.. 39 Leg armor practically screams: leg me, leg me! :P

Most people don't try to leg the K2 - they try to either take the arms off or core it. Legging it still leaves it functional at any range and it is simply better to get it of the battlefield.

Besides, nobody knows you only have 39 Leg armor - and still it will take a pounding before you lose them.

You'll be fine. :D

I haven't been playing for a while on account of law school and the holidays, but I have some c-bills to burn and was eyeing the K2 as a sniper. What do people think about a K2 with dual ERPPCs and dual AC/2? Something like: this.

I was also thinking of running a dual UAC/5 build, but am wondering if both of those builds (or even, yes, dual gausses) would be better in a Cataphract. Thoughts?

I'm not the biggest fan of the AC/2 myself (like big hitting ballistics more), but it seems the build could benefit from DHS (better cooling efficiency and armor on the arms for more side-torso protection and to protect the dhs in there of course): CPLT-K2

CPLT-K2 Is what I have been using. Seems to have decent damage from range, and decent speed and armor for in close.
