Just because you can mount a missile instead of an auto cannon is hardly P2W. Unless the setups were really cheese supportive, but you have weight/criticals still to deal with. Less of course they bypassed that. That wouldn't be very MW though. PGI seems to get what MW is so far.
Sorry, not buying that. Think about what it would be like if they had a founder mech being an Atlas that dropped the 3 ballistic hardpoints in it's torso for 3 energy and 3 missile hardpoints? Hardpoints need to be carefully balanced because they are the real limiter to optimization (BT TT rules for reconfiguring by rebuilding is flat out broken when you start optimizing to the ton in a Sim game). The hardpoints on Premium Mechs need to be identical to something else in it's same tonnage, even if it means a Premium Mech Atlas gets the Stock Awesome hardpoint config. This is because I do have munchkin blood in my viens and I can optimize things to perform in ways not intended by design and do so well. With people like me in the world, having a different hardpoint config that can only be obtained by paying for it with real money will either be worthless as it is less effective than other hardpoint configs or Pay To Win because we can push it an extra inch in a direction that other mechs cannot reach.

So those that pay to fund the further development of the game are not allowed to have stuff that the freeloaders can't?
Not at all what I'm posting about. Those that support the game with real money shouldn't be rewarded with anything that is mechanically different that free players cannot get their hands on. What should players use real money on to support the game? Things that can be seen, but offer no difference in gameplay, only looks.
Custom Models (Pirate Atlas, Jenner with 'heatsink wings'), special holding mounts for weapons (why yes, my Atlas's AC20 is inside of a Dragon's head, show your respect DC) or even a hula girl for your cockpit view, or lucky dice. Cosmetic items only, and the more successful F2P games that aren't shamed over the web thrive on this alone, because a free player that comes to love the game is more likely to buy cool cosmetic things for the mechs they have gotten attached to.
Mechanical options being exclusively bought with real cash reeks of Pay To Win and will drive players that feel the way I do away. There was a nice poll a little while back that showed a pretty even split on the concept of "Premium Mechs." About half voted for them, half voted against them. The trick is, those that voted for them will not leave if those special mechs have no mechanical difference in the game. But a good portion of those that voted against Premium Mechs will leave if they are mechanically different.
I'd go ahead and suggest that Premium Players could get access to AC's that fire Kamayamaya Waves and PPCs that shoot Magic Purple Rainbows but I think some of our Lore Guardians will cry foul about how it shatters the atmosphere, and they would be giving some very good points.
