Instead of derailing an NV poll thread completely, Ima move a discussion of fluff flavour to this thread instead.

During the NV thread, the topic of realism and fluff changing came up. While I am by no means a TT purist beause videogame !=TT, I enjoy the fluff and find that this is the part of the older games I cherish. I like the flavour of Battletech more than the rules used to bring me my giant robot fighting. Merky Merc had a not-ridiculous post about changing the names of kit in a more believable vein, with an eye to a more modern flavour to the naming.

For me changes to the naming convention would detract from the game at large, since it's so heavily based inside the Battletech IP with its long history, not just in different gaming formats but other media. I mentioned that for me it would feel like changing the Jedi name in a Star Wars game.

I don't care that an LRM20 doesn't actually do 20 damage anymore, but I don't feel that a name change is necessary to reflect that. Nor do I even know what actual calibre my ballistic weapons are, since an AC20 in an Atlas may not be the same make and model as one in the Wang for example, and could potentially be firing in slightly different calibres, but that according to ingame rules will still do the same damage.
