I'm not sure why, but I had the urge to play my YLW again this week. I've been trying 4 different builds.

All of them have both FF (Thanks no R&R!) and Endo.

AC 20 (3t) build with 2 MLs..

AC2x2 (3t) 2 MLs ..

Both are "OK" but have some significant issues defending against other lights and mediums. I seem to do better with the STD engines vs heavier mechs. against light compositions it's always difficult with only 2 MLs.

Anyone else have YLW builds for the new ECM / Raven / DDC world we live in today?

I tend to play them with stock weapons. But definitely up the speed (with a standard engine!) if you can (I have a 250 I think in mine). Lights are always hard to hit, and even when you do they don't always do the proper thing and explode into pieces. Took me 3 hits to kill a Raven (granted, one shot was in the arm, and the second was in the leg), and I shot a Cicada in the leg and didn't destroy it (only stripped the armor and made it yellow). However, you can back hug all the bigger mechs and core them pretty good.

Your YLW builds are solid - it's more that the YLW's focus on direct fire weaponry combined with the lack of arm swing makes it more vulnerable than most medium mechs when fighting fast scouts. As for DDC's - well the YLW has the same issues against them as any other medium would.

I can only suggest working on lag leading and learning to anticipate when a scout is going to turn so you can take advantage of flatter firing angles that dramatically improve your chance to hit them.

I found that swapping in the largest XL I could fit gave me enough DHS and tonnage to run an AC20 and w MLAS.... at 100 kph! The wang cna actually fit a larger engine than any other cent (except the 9D) and the speed makes up for the side-torso vunlerability. Fast AC20 hit and run is very effective. But, of course, make a wrong move and you're dead very fast....

I do just about the same, but with 2xMLAS and 4xAC20 ammo. Simple but effective. True, lights can give you a headache, but at least you are fast enough to try and dodge/find help.

I dropped a 280XL into mine and mounted 2xUAC5's in the gun arm. Pairing those with two medium lasers. It's done OK for me, you just have to make sure you are on the outside of the battle.

i stick to mostly the stock loadout. 215 engine with speed tweak gets you a little over 80kph, FF armor, 2 medium lasers and either the ac20 or guass with 4 tons of ammo for wether you want to get up close or hang back.

just keep everything to your left lol.

You know, it just occurred to me, what about ECM exactly changed anything for the Yen? It's not like the Yen depended on a lot of missile locks or long range targets before. Sure we see annoying Ravens and Commandos aplenty now, but before that there was always two or so Jenners floating around every game. I would say the Wang has the same problems as always ECM or no.

As a direct fire mech, I think that the YLW actually has more value NOW than before ECM, since it can pack a real punch with good speed and doesn't rely on targeting or locks.

If you dislike brawling with your YLW, just plug an ER Large Laser and a Gauss Rifle on him.

I do very well with mine. I'm running a STD 225, AMS, 2 medium pulse lasers, and an AC20 with 3 tons ammo (with all upgrades).

I run slightly over 80 kph (speed tweak), and keep my left arm/side towards the enemy. I've pulled top damage and kills fairly often with him, mostly because I can spam without over heating.

I have the ac20 (4 tons), 2 ml's, AMS (1 ton) endo steel, DHS, stock engine. to be honest this build has done me wonders. I have also gotten good at taking out lights with this build. If you get good with that ac20 and you wait tell they give that straight line for a second you got them. Commmando's when running away are especially bad as they bear minimum lose a arm.

My original Yen Lo:

280XL (99.8kph i think)
AC/20 (4 tons ammo, 5 if i drop a DHS out of the engine)
AMS (1 ton ammo)
MLAS
MPLAS
320 armor

This build has got me a ridiculous amount of kills & runs at about a 3:1 kdr.

I tried something last night that may or may not end up working out

270XL (needed the extra ton from the other build, still a respectable 96.X kph)
2xUAC/5 (4 tons ammo)
2xMLAS
320 armor

I had to ditch the AMS & lose a ton of engine, but the 5 or so games I ran with it last night were fun. I treat it like a UAC/10 with 50 rounds. It does half the damage of my other build per shot, but if I get a string of no-jam shots, any medium will go down in under 10s. Both builds run DHS & endo.
