So you are saying that stats are worse than someone exploiting by disconnecting? I think you are putting the cart in front of the horse.
No, i'm saying having stats generally encourages behavior like this - 'my kd' etc.

The only problem with that is you can't tell if someones just Alt+F4'ing, or if their routers decided to be a brick today, or if the client's died on them.

One game isn't going to matter if the routers pooping out on you, and if its continual they have bigger problems than the game and shouldn't be ruining it for others to begin with. People usually CTD at the beginning. I personally witnessed the Discos of several and will start sending in the names I guess.

Yeah. Well. Should..
Those kills have to count. It would instantly remove this problem.

True, but it would cause others like rage at having a CTD happen. "Agh... it's going to affect my stats crashing every 4th game like I have been." Which is funny since I've CTD twice since upgrading my system.
The root cause of it all is K/D and people who can't seem to grasp that it doesn't matter what that number is. Complain all you want about giving a trophy to kids for participating we still have people who think a made up number in what should be entertainment MEANS something beyond "Hey that's cool." We have people who derive self worth off this sort of thing and thus take it far too seriously and will do whatever it takes to have that little number be higher than someone else. Since fixing the attitude would probably mean therapy or altering society, simply removing the number will force these people to reconsider it's value.

Yes, you've got a high K/D, well done, we still know you're crap.

Hang on a minute. I thought the OP posted his Prey disco'd before he killed him/her? How in the hell is PGI supposed to give out a Kill, when one was never actually made?
Would some value, say 93% damage done to a Chassis, rate as a Kill under whatever you would proposed as a Fix to the System? Perhaps only 89% damage applied would give you the Kill?
A Kill is not a Kill until it is reported in the game, by the game, as Player X was killed by Player Y.

Best light/med/heavy/assault, most base caps, time between getting killed, basically just bury us in data and spread the epeening around.
You can then use the data to discourage whatever the 'behavior dejour' is that month (disconnects, team killing, etc...) by tweaking it.
Want to save your KDR by disconnecting? Then you go to the bottom of the list of 'time in game' or something like that.
By adding more stats (not removing the little we have) you create better player behavior, then removing even more aspects of a already MVP (minimum viable product).
IMO.
