OK so been playing a few weeks now so here's some observations on my new player experience

Things I love

1) Giant Robots shooting the crap out of each other

2) Huge brawls on the objectives and matches that end up with 1-2 mechs standing (hey I'm not complicated or very subtle OK)

3) That new conquest mode. It's great. It gets people off their arses and moving. Gets them out of their sniping positions and gets people moving to the fight. Awesome.

Things I don't love or that could use some work

1) All the cry engine errors. Mostly it's river city (mostly daytime at that). Occasionally the map with the river down one side and the tunnel on the other fails but way less often then river city. I figure they're working on this. It happens less often after the last patch.

2) All the DCs. Seems like some of the time I go into a match and the match builder has us 1 guy down, then some one DCs, and then it turns out we had some dude afk on base as well. So 5 vs 8 yeah that's not going to end well
.
3) All the PUG stomping by premades (don't tell me it isn't happening because it is totally happening).

4) All the people being dicks on the internet. Actually this needs it's own sub catagorys.

4a) Can we have a block feature please? At least for the chat. Some people are just giant trolls, douches, or whiners (and I'll cop to having done my share of the latter) and I'd rather not have to hear what they have to say.

4b) Can we also be able to block people and not be in their matches? I'm talking about the team killing idiots here. The ones that go into a match blast away at thier team mates until they overheat and die. Dunno what's up with that. Maybe they so suck so bad that's the only kills they get. Either way an option to not have them in my matches would be awesome

4c) Premades that try to drop as an 8 man. I've seen people say that the chances are that if 2x4 mans that are trying to land together they are as likely to land on opposite sides from each other. That's true as far as it goes. So 50/50 they land together. Powerful advantage if they do but (and here's the people being dicks on the internet bit) I have also seen what happens when they do land on opposite sides. Sometimes they all disconnect en masse. Yeah **** move I know. And yet it happened to me twice yesterday.

Apart from that it's a cool game. Basically I'm playing until it crashes then playing other games till I get bored and then back to MW until it crashes again.

I imagine there are premades that try to do this for the advantage. But my friends and I have done this when there was no one to play against in 8-man drops (like Christmas night). The funny thing is we have more fun and prefure to drop against each other than doing 8-man pug stomps. We often do 8-man vs 8-man drops when we have enough members online.

So I dont think its fair to put all premades in the same catagory. Many of us prefure the challange, our unit often looks for unscheduled scrims.

Also if you are getting stomped in pug matches. Don't blame it all on premades, I have dropped many matches by my self and have come on top 8-0 and lost 0-8. It all depends on the skill of the pilots, not necesarly premade's wrecking your day.

When we sync drop 4 man teams - we're actually trying to get a game where we play each other not vs. PUGs.

If PGI would make a client side server that did not provide rewards, and that players can login with a password. We would almost never PUG and would practice 8v8, or 4v4 all night long.

Sure. And I'm not specifically saying all pre-mades are bad. I think that DCing enmasse when you don't land together is a pretty crappy thing to do though. Mostly that's my gripe.

And I'm doing OK in the PUG matches.Sometimes I land with people that are terrible, hell sometimes I'm terrible (we all have our 'well duh' moments). I'll have matches where I'll be having a lovely fight and suddenly the world is full of reds and when I asplode I realise I was the last guy on my side standing. Sometimes I go up against people that are very good and I get my head handed to me and that's fine. Sometimes I get dropped with people that are very good and I learn heaps by sticking with them (or just watching over their shoulder after I meet my inevitable demise).

So as regards PUGs vs Premades I'm not wanting to restart what seems to be a long running debate. Premades are great to have on your team and obviously it's horribly cheating if they have one on the other side and you don't.;) In matches where I see a group of four steam off together I stick with them and shoot what they shoot and that usually goes well.

But lets not kid ourselves. There's some obvious tactical advantages with having your whole team running as a team and all being on voice. You 'should' just roll straight over PUGs that aren't working together. That's a given. Hell I don't even mind so much when that happens. I mean well organised mayhem like that is a thing of beauty. What I could live without is people being a prat in the chat interface. See 4a above.

Love and Hate is a good way to describe it. Maybe 20% of the time I love the game and have a great time with it. It's this 20% that carries me through the 80% where I want to ragequit. Obviously I always calm down and keep coming back, and I'm smart enough to chant to myself "don't post angry don't post angry" because even though the frustration is real, when you vent on the forum you sound like a crybaby.

I'm just clinging desperately to the naive belief that phase 3 matchmaking will make all the difference and solve all my problems. I actually don't have too many issues with the stability and netcode. The game is mostly reliable for me. In my case, all the Hate stems from the 8-0 and 0-8 matches that are the norm. A good game is a rare, elusive, and wonderful thing.

I've heard people on the forum say that phase 3 won't change anything. I sure hope they're wrong. I really REALLY want the Love to outweigh the Hate, instead of the Love just being the big fat tease it is today. Fingers crossed.

First of all. Myself as a huge Battletech fan since the board game. Its, NOT ROBOTS!!. They are Mechs. I get insulted when "Robots" is replaced by mechs. Sorry, had to burst that out.

Hate cuurently greater then love. Here's some new things I have found to hate.

8-bit error. Didn't used to have it. Last 2 patches I get it 1 game in 10.

FPS bug. Seems to be worse then it used to be. Sometimes I could kind of function. Now it's just totally unuseable.

Trying to hit light mechs, With my ping? Why bother? Seriously I just ignore them and pour fire into something I can hit. If they kill me at least I got more damage on things I could hit and maybe that helped my team to win. I leave the lights to people with a ping less then 200.

Game crashing after exiting night city. Happens less with the current patch. Still happens.

OK so the positives first.

Whatever was done this patch I'm not getting any more CRYENGINE errors so yay progress.

Here's some more things I'd like fixed.

1) Fix all the disconnects - these aren't all people being douches. I know that when I get the FPS, 8-bit or the golden screen of doom bugs I let my team know and then DC. I rather suspect that most of the DCs are people who didn't think to let people know why they were quitting. At the moment my response to suddenly finding I'm in 6v8 is to horrah harry straight down the centre of the map shooting wildly until some one puts me out of my misery. Since I'm pretty much boned already at least it gets me into another match faster.

2) Did we really needed another light ECM mech? There weren't enough of those already? There wasn't other stuff that needed fixing ahead of this? COUGH lagsheild COUGH.

OK latest patch worst one so far. Crashes to black screen mid game, start of game, end of game or whenever it damn well feels like it. Seems to be stable enough to run 3-5 games max before it craps out. Wondering how much longer I can be bothered before I just uninstall and MWO becomes this thing I remember with bitterness because I stupidly gave them my money.

This. Not in a clan right now, but I used to be in WoT. Stupid crazy mass sync drops, not so we could pug stomp, but so we could fight each other and in particular, hunt the leadership. We all jumped to different channels only if we were in different matches. The TS channel became chaos and great fun was had by all, including the four or five random souls who got placed by the MM into our imprompt to in-house clan war.

And as soon as I post a ragey post it works just fine for the rest of the day. Please excuse my venting.
