Mechwarrior: Online will be it's own game, and Free-to-Play, thus you will not need to purchase anything at all in order to play it.

A. its a mod thats been around since 07. B. No one wanted to make a standalone game at the time. And C. They are not going to move it over to cry engine 3 right now because of all the work/time they spent getting the cry engine 2 to do what they need and they are still learning how to work it. IF you think bout it would you want to put a game youve been working on since 07 on a new engine which would require you to change every unit, every map and so on and so forth. That would take aleast another year with how much stuff they have on it.

Im just saying, why cant they use the CryEngine 3 Free SDK to make it a standalone game and free game, I JUST WANT TO PLAY SOMETHING BEFORE MWO COMES OUT MAN!
Edit: Ninja Alert!!! But still, it would be a great opportunity to get more players!

Maybe you should be asking the ppl who made the mod this question since MWO has nothing to do with it.

I'm a big fan of MWLL, It's a great mod, well worth the twenty bucks (or less, Crysis Wars is constantly on sale for under $10.00), but I think you will get more information on the MWLL forum. I know for a fact that this topic has been gone over a number of times.

i'm fairly certain that M$ never sold the license to MW..
also, MW:LL isn't going to be ported over to cryengine 3 b/c it would take 9+ months to do the job, and the devs don't want to leave the game dormant for that long.

This is better suited for their forums though instead of here as the devs can give you a more complete answer.

Basically this. If they made it standalone, it would take probably about a full YEAR to get it working. It would be easier for them in the long run, but in the meantime they have the current mod being left behind, never getting any updates for a full year, which would kill much of the community that they already have. So even if they started now, you would have MWO many many months before MWLL became standalone.
Also, you should have bought Crysis/Warhead when is was $10 for both on steam.

If would be great to be able to get into the mod for free. but well.. it's just a bummer really.

You are 10000% wrong. MS does retain the mechwarrior licence. I suggest you do some reading on a thing called google.
