Having just noticed that the flavor background for this mode is due to Ge being used in Jump ships and people wanting it, but it being in short supply, so people fight over it:

Irony, due to learning just last month how to use Germanium transistors for vintage sound effects in music.
Also due to the fact that Ge is considered a conflict material in real life (like blood diamonds, for instance). High deposits of Ge in areas of indigenous population that is primitive invokes exploitation of he area and destruction of the habitat and native population, etc etc..

Sometimes games are eerily true to life.
