ECM is such a powerful defensive ability in game right now.

If the Devs dont want to change the way ECM works, then they can tweek it slightly.

Make ECM weigh 10% of TOTAL Mech weight.

35 Tonners ECM would weigh 3.5 Tons.
100 Tonners ECM would weigh 10 Tons.

This would be a large investment of tonnage even for a 100 Ton Mech.
I feel this would represent more the huge defensive capabilities that ECM provides.
It would also help limit ECM to a few Mechs per team rather than every Mech that can have it, having it without any offensive reduction due to weight restrictions.

Really good idea It doesn't solve the problem of 3+ ECM Ravens in a team (what is really overpowered) but at least the problem of the Atlas D-DC being more powrful than all other Assault Mechs because of ECM; and Ravens at least have to think about what to drop for the heavier ECM.

One of the commandments of MWO should be it won't depart from CBT for weight and critical for any item. This makes it possible to build any stock config in the game and give it a whorl. There's just so many other characteristics for just about any item we can think of that there's really no reason to go there.

Yep, and please, make 3.5 tonn ECM range/power/awesomeness 0.35 of full-size ECM.

Why not just take out the Guardian and repalce it with the older ECM used during the SW.

Weights as much as a PPC (7 tons), has the size of an AC/5 (4 crits) and if even that wasn't enough (which I doubt), it could also get its range reduced to a half.
