Hey guys! I am looking for a new, fun to play cool mech :)

I've got an Awesome 8R, 3xCommando and 3xAtlas.

I don't own any Medium or Heavy mechs so I want to get one, but I am unsure which one would be the most fun to play with. Looking at the both classes the ones that are interesting to me are Cataphract, Catapult and Hunchback...

I am thinking of something fast and deadly, suggestions ?

If you want something fast you definitely wanna go Medium. If you want something deadly you definitely wanna try Hunchback 4SP. Surely every 'Mech can be deadly with a proper loadout, but HBK-4SP is pretty damn powerful even stock. Upgrade it with a larger STD engine (245 or 250) and DHS makes it one of the most fierce brawlers in MWO.

Dragons are fast, but not without an XL engine if you wanna pack a punch. Also among stock variants only 1C has reasonable hardpoint layout (Flame and Fang are pretty good tho) so keep that in mind if you wanna fully upgrade the Mech tree.

Speaking of fast AND deadly, why not AWS-9M? I had a ton of fun with Awesomes and 9M is certainly a beauty.

4SP - cheap and effective

Endo
DHS
250std
4x MLas
2x Srm6 with 3t of ammo
6x DHS

Goes 89.x km/h with elite, runs pretty hot (but you are not new to the game ^^) is very agile with its insane torso twist and has 4x arm mounted lasers which allevate the hunchbacks bad vertical firing arcs.

Took mine out yesterday after having neglected it for to long, its such a pleasure to pilot it.

Spoiler

9M - not cheap but so boss

DHS
380XL
1x LLas (RA)
3x MLas (CT)
3x Srm4 with 3t of ammo
13x DHS (!)

You can easily swap stuff with this engine while maintaining loads of DHS. Other variants i run are with 4x MPlas + 3x Srm4 or 6x MPlas + 1x Srm6, they "sound" better. You can even cram in a PPC and try that. I like it so much that i even forked out MC for a custom skin

Spoiler

Edit: You could give in to the dark-side and buy a 3L...

I will finish the AWS tree some day and the upcoming buff to PPCs will only make me want to do it sooner, however I am looking for a lighter mech for my next buy. The HBK-4SP is tempting, will give it a good look.

If you're PUGging and looking for a fast medium, the ECM Cicada is a royal pain in the *** to fight against.

Personally I prefer the Centurion out of the mediums, but it takes a while to get used to.

Hi again stjobe, I don't like the bigger Jenner  The Centurion is an interesting mech - a lot of negative and positive opinions about it, so I guess trying it out is the only way. For now the HBK looks like the one I would go for. No one said anything about the Cataphracts ...

Fast and deadly describes my dragon... 103 KPH, long range, good firepower, good armor.

DRG-FLAME or DRG-1C
Endo Steel, XL350, 17 DHS
2x PPC
2x Medium Laser
I've been waffling between ER PPC's and normal PPC's... the extra 300M range really helps in a lot of situations, but it is a LOT of extra heat...

One other variant I sometimes run trades speed for some more close in firepower.
DRG-FLAME or DRG-1C
Endo Steel, XL300, 18 DHS
2x PPC
2x Medium Pulse Laser
SRM4 w/ 2 tons ammo

Just bought a CN9-A yesterday, and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT:

3x SRM6 (3 tons ammo)
AC/2 (1 ton ammo)
2x ML
STD 250 engine (81 kph without tweak)

Take pot-shots at range with the AC/2, and when things get close absolutely melt them with the SRMs. The 2 ML are good for when you're a zombie. I usually find an Atlas teammate to bodyguard while playing this variant, and I have a blast.

I'm a big fan of the HBK-4SP, great fast moving striker. I also deeply love the CN9-AL with 2xLLAS, 2xMLAS, and a 250STD engine. Both of those mechs can be reconfigured into very effective TAG+LRM builds if you ever get tired of running them regular too.

I post a Phract-3D build the other day that combines fire power with decent mobility. 75kph isn't amazing, but combined with clever use of the jumpjets you can get around quickly and get to places no one expects.

If possible, go with the CN9-D. Even as a trial mech, it is pretty good, so you can imagine what kind of killing machine it can turn into.

As far as fast and deadly goes, the best one in this category would have to be the Dragon, but it costs a lot... a really great deal lot of money to get into that mechgrinder config.

I've tried the trial CN9-D and honestly it didn't feel as what I wanted, so I bought the HBK-4SP .... firs impression: "Funny, they don't shoot at me ?! Make them pay!"

Did 3 games so far:
1st Game: 2 Kills (Atlas, Centurion)
2nd Game: 1 Kill (Got the texture bug, so I couldn't see what was the mech)
3rd Game: 2 Kils (Centurion, Jenner)

I really enjoy it although it is very slow right now it feels like it has the potential to be a very fun to drive mech :)

Thanks for the tips everyone!
