I really like this game. At this very second it is very broken, but I'm patient. I know that the netcode will be fixed and that knockdowns will come back. As for private matches and community warfare, I can only hope and wait.

Also, please let me know which mech I should start with.

There's a bug that you'll probably see when you start playing. System message is "Invalid User has disconnected"

I voted for the centurion. Of the options it's got a nice variety of weapons, and you have a lot of options for customization. The arm can hold and ballistic except an AC-20, and 3 missile hardpoints are great with either LRMs or SRMs.

The first thing I did with it was to swap the LRM for SRM, and add armor. Endosteel and double heatsinks are also usually good additions for that chassis.

EDIT: Raven is also really good right now with ECM and all. It depends on whether you like speed or firepower.
