This one is a storyline / realism thing, with comments to playability.

Say, youre a smart mech technician working at dropship, and you see your hero coming back from battlefield, all beaten up.

You: "Uh, Boss, what happened?"

Him: "Those ******** Jenners, if they get on my mechs back, there's nothing I can do!"

You: "Oh."

Him: "How it can be so hard to get a radar to show mechs at my back? It rotates in 360 degrees and all, like all Radars since they invented them allmost two thousand years ago!"

You: "Urm, they say that they'll fix that software glitch to next release."

Him: "That's what they have said for years now! And HOW COME ECM works at all, distrupting the radio waves sent by the radar, to 360 degrees and long radius? With the same guys in helm, how can they get ECM to work, but cannot fix my radar?"

You: "Well, Boss, they say they used different SW subcontractor company this time, and due to legal issues, they cannot get rid of the guys making the Radar."

Him: "That figures. Millenia after millenia, its subcontractors and lawyers who are the source of all Evil. Now it's up to you. Fix my mech, and get me a way to look backwards."

You: "Urr, yes Boss."

So what to do?

Install him a pair of these:

W: Rear view mirror or radar to function backwards too, as it is plain stupid that you cannot look backwards with mechs. Considering how of often battles are won or lost by it, I am sure real mech warriors would have figured a way to look backwards.

From storyline and realism perspective, I have difficulties to believe ECM works so well. Make it more vulnerable, with limitations to angles it works, or for instance PPC hit shutting it off for few seconds.

World of Tanks uses 3rd person view to it, I'd go to 360 degrees radar route and some cameras/screens at cockpit UI. It sounds awkward enough to press left-ctrl to look down to a small backwards-camera screen AND steer your mech - this should differ the boys from Men.
