Wondering once I've got all 8/8 basic can I sell a variant to go towards the next one I need to get 8/8 on? Or do I need to have all 3 owned at the same time to get basic X2 unlocked? I'm pretty sure I can sell it but I just want to double check.

Thanks.

Yes... but remember.. you need 3 basic -- 3 elite to get to masters... once you have 3 variants of the same chasis with elite, you can start on another chasis and you only need basic on 3 variants of it to get to elite and to masters..

Don't sell variant. You need need to have all 3 variants at the same time in the mech bay to get basic X2 unlocked.
If you sell the mech you can buy it back and it will still have the basic upgrades. But it will cost you to buy it back.

Thanks for the answers. I don't think I could bear eliteing 2 crappy dragons just for another module on my flame

Buy first variant, grind basic efficiencies then grind another 21,500 xp. Buy second variant, do the same. Buy third variant, grind basic efficiencies (and assuming this is the variant you want to elite), use the accumulated 21,500 xp to do elite on 1st and 2nd variant then sell them.

Grind third variant till you can do elite and master.

You need 3 slots for this. Otherwise, you will need to sell to free up mechbay and later re-purchase to up elite efficiencies later.

Not sure if it was a bug or not, but I was able to Master a mech before getting Elite on all 3 variants. Had Basic unlocked on all 3, but Elite on only 2.

You need the 3 basic of a chasis to unlock elite, but not master. Once you finish 3 mechs of the same weight class in elite, master is unlocked permanently for that class.

erm, given most weight classes only have 3 mech types in them presently this is interesting as a statement. do you have anything to back it up.

i state this question as i've had three atlases at master for some time, but picking up a stalker, i could not automagically go for master skills with just the one variant. stalkers assault weight class, so is the atlas.

Does this mean since I have 3 Jenner's (35t) elited, if I pick up my first Raven (35t) the extra Master module will be available before I even get Basic or Elite?

frankly i think he is just mistaken. if he is not, then i have a bug to report.

now if he means unlocking master on three different chassis instead of three variants of a single chassis in a weight class, as i noted it would be moot for most weight classes as they only contain three chassis' so far, so is likely in error.

You still need 3 variants to get through basic, but only the one to get through elite. Once you have 3 total variants of any mech in that weight class, you will be able to unlock master. I had 1 dragon unlock master, finished elite on the other 2 but never finished master. Cataphract was released. I used my 2x almost exclusively to gain cbills to buy 2 other variants. This resulted in a mass amount of exp that I could not use after finishing basic. When I finished basic on my 3rd variant, I just started unlocking the elites for my 2x. as soon as I unlocked the last elite, master was available. I brought this up in the forums in the past thinking it was a bug. Its not.

Go to the piliot lab and select a mech you are working on elite for. Right under the variant you select you will see in small writing "Please purchase all ELITE efficiancies for 3 variants of this weight class to unlock master." If I knew how to screenshot it I would.

While it is true that most chassis only have 3 variants, and you need to pass basic in them to get to elite, once you are at elite it allows you to sell unwanted chassis and variants to free up mechbays.

^He's right!

Something else to mention: basic levels are a lot faster to come by (= cheaper) than elite levels.
So if you want to master a new mech and you already have 2 elite mechs of the same weight class there is no need to level 3 variants of your new mech further than basic (in order to be able to purchase elite).
Just do the basics, sell the 2 unwanted variants and go for elite on your 3rd, after that you can aim for master.

Makes sense now. I already had 3 Dragons elited, then was able to master a Cataphract before getting the other two past elite.

Thanks for the tip. I already have elite finished on 3 catapults so I will be able to master my flame with just the basic complete on the 2 other dragons.
