New Mech Discussion

First of all which mech is coming next? Trebuchet? Spider? Orion? I do not like the method in which the mechs are being introduced but also not given a release approximation date.
Do you think the jump jet ability of the Spider mech will be as huge as stated? I've read in places that it will be able to jump jet 150-200m! If that is the case then how OP will that make the Spider in comparison to other lights?
The Orion has to be one of the most highly anticipated mechs ever (besides the Mad Cat). Do you think that everyone will be playing Orion's so much that it will turn into OrionWarrior Online? Or will it die down a bit like most of the other mechs that have been introduced?
This is just a friendly opinionated topic. Let me know what you all think of the mechs in question here and keep the poo talking to a minimum and also try to stay on subject otherwise start a new topic.

I think that the Spider will be one awesome little mech able to actually do REAL scouting and reporting back to his team. It could potentially change tactics once again.
I hope the ORION is as sweet in game as it is outside the game and I hope they give us the good variants! It will probably be a highly played mech for a while then it should die down in a few months when other mechs are released and people go back to their master slotted streak cats or LaserStalkers.

Next up is Spider on Jan. 15th, and then Trebuchet on Feb. 19th.
The Orion has no announced release date.

There's only two choices that are both available in 3049 and not Unseen: The Dervish and the Kintaro. Neither of which are especially appetizing.

and did not find something particular interesting.
Maybe the Osprey, which has a cool Marauder like back mounted Gauss Rifle:

Edit: Is this one unseen? It should be rare but was introduced in 2738.

It is possible that the increased jump capability will be one of the main draws of taking the spider into battle, the downside being the smaller amount of firepower that the mech can bring to the table.
Next in line is the Trebuchet, which will be available on Febuary 18th.
The Trebuchet seems to be a favorable alternative to the Catapult because it can bring almost the same amount of firepower at a faster speed.
I'm not sure about the Orion.

The Osprey is extinct in 3049 and won't be back until the Jihad (3067).

At least the Dervish would be the first fast jump jet equipped medium (Blackjack is quite slow)
But then I would rather have the Clint:

No, it's 240 meters, which is the size of 12 Atlases. I have the feeling they will tweak it a bit into the game, though.
As far as OP'ness goes. You are surely kidding. That thing has a whooping firepower of... wait for it... 2 medium lasers and less depending on the variant. No, certainly not OP, just a conventional scout mech, unlike EW Raven and two strikers Commando and Jenner.

Uh...no...no bro.
Spider will be speed capped just like the rest of the lights.....and it brings nothing new to the table. Jump jets are gimp currently.
Its also Non-Ecm'd as far as i can tell, so it wont be viable in 8 man at all.

They don't have solid dates, because experience has shown them that sometimes more pressing issues (Bug and NetCode) have to take precedent over pushing new items. Small staff, can't really deal with everything sometimes.
I would like a more "solid" guess overall, and am hoping one of the reasons it has been about 1 mech a month is that they have been (hopefully) Simultaneously working on the Clan Mechs in the back ground (The 3050 Big 12 at least). That is my hope for the somewhat ponderous pace at times.
The Spider has taken a big hit with the JJ nerf, being that it can make the 240 meter LONG leap, but they appear to want to keep the max height nerfed, which means that most mechs, even ones that survive only due to their leaping, able to clear buildings.
The JJ decision has got to be the dumbest line in the sand PGI has drawn since the "Double" Heat Sink. (I generally overlook a lot, but there are a few things that are quite simply, inexplicable).
The Orion will be big, because it gives a Cataphract like Mech with Ballistics, but (hopefully) better Missile slots to complement. The Orion, for all intents and purposes is an Atlas RS lite, with better speed and less armor. So it will be good.
You will see the initial surge, but like most mechs, after the excitement/experimentation wears off, most will return to designs that "fit" them better. That, and TBH, I believe the Cataphract will be the overall premiere heavy (funny for a junkyard frankenstien) for some time to come. The 70 ton weight is pretty much a Mechwarrior sweet spot. (With standard tech you on average, after accounting for larger engines, gyros and Internal Structure, usually only gain 1 more tone usable space moving up to 75 tons).
Heck, thanks to the 4X Phract, I am not even really too caring about the Jagermech anymore.

Bushwacker would be great if it was actually created at this point.
But other than that, it's just Unseens, the Dervish (bleh), and the Kintaro (double bleh).

Cool looking but not here in 3050

But I like the idea of "gremlins in the Mech's on board electronics". They should definitely implement that

Like the flea, there's no reason to add it to the game.
January looks like a wasted month, unless they magically lift the speedcap, fix the jumpjets, rework the mech to have like 6 hardpoints, remove lagshields...
I just want a trenchbucket.

I'm imagining they'll probably stick 6 hardpoints on it, unless they do something sad like only putting 4 on it.
At least the 5K might be able to find some sort of niche ballistic use, but they'd definitely have to fix the machine gun before anyone considered using it for more than silly builds.
