Just started playing a week ago with some friends and I'm having a ton of fun.

Quick question: I understand that TAG'ing a mech after you launch LRMs doesn't do much good. However, what if TAG is in the same weapons group as my LRMs and they fire at the same time?

wont do much good in the same weapon group. Theres a post somewhere that explains how to toggle tag off and on. Personally, I just assign it to a weapon group line that my space bar activates and just hold down space when I need it. Muscle memory takes a few matches to become a subconscious action, but its easy to do.

A good option is to map TAG to weapon group 6 and modified the trigger key for this group to perma fire (there is a guide somewhere in the forums ...). Fire group 6 once at the start of the match and it will perma fire, but it stops when you deselect TAG from group 6.

This way you can turn TAG on and off by add/remove TAG in group 6 whenever you need it.

Works fine for me...

If you PUG mostly you might just consider having it on every weapon group as well as one on its own.

In units you'll probably want it in a separate group so you can selectively use it against the focused target as well have it in your LRM group to aid your own LRM salvo.

Thanks for the answers, ya'll. Is that TAG modifiying method officially approved? Or is it considered an bannable exploit?

Ignore comments from kids who find their inner "tuffnezz" when they're sitting safe and secure behind a computer monitor.

No, it's not an exploit.

Okay, cool! In some games, client-side data modification is considered an exploit. Figured I ask as I don't want to be banned a week after I started.

I run TAG in two ways. One is via a specific button for the on/off and the other is perma-on. The perma-on is a simple physical workaround. I assign it to weapon-group 6, assign that weapon-group to to a keyboard key, and place a steel weight on it when I want it always on. Simple.

I'm pretty sure they'd remove the topic from the forums if it were.

Client side data manipulation is considered an exploit. But there's a difference between having a key set to constantly fire and changing the game files to paint every mech bright pink and give them a blinding glow so you always know where they are.

It would stand to reason that locking the key is harmless. In reality there's a strong chance you're actually nerfing yourself since Tag shows up like a laser on both thermal and night vision -- so you're painting a bright arrow that says "I'm over here and I need to be shot!"

Personally if I'm an LRM boat I have it set to right click. I also have a 6 button mouse, so yeah. Just hold it when I need it.

Otherwise while I look around I'd be shining this bright signal flare that says "LOOK AT ME I'M AN LRM BOAT SOMEONE COME KILL ME!!!!"

That said, if you're found by your laser you have only yourself to blame. :)

They really need to make it a toggle. push once for on, once more for off.
