I'm about to purchase my third HBK so I can start working towards the elites. I have the 4Pand 4SP, and love the close in stuff. What would you recommend? The 4H or 4G?

Hey Pastor. I like the 4G but the 4H gives you a bit more leway with varied builds. You have less ballistic hard points and more lasers. I'd go with the 4H as if you want close range you can whack an AC/20 or LBX 10 and then the rest lasers.

I had exactly same models, P and SP, in that order, when I bought my third. I bought G because I wanted something completely different but I can only recommend the H model, as it happens that after many many weapons configurations I ended up using single AC20 and 3 med lasers... so 2 ballistics slots unused. First i had mgs in those slots but I noticed how pathetic damage they do so i took more AC 20 ammunition instead. If you pick H you can have AC 20 and 5 lasers which is helluva firepower once you learn to hit w/ AC20.

That being said I had many fun (and some frustrating) moments testing different weapons configurations for my G model. I've tried dual AC5, dual UAC5, and several other combos. My personal all time damage record is still ~750 which i managed to pull with a wierdly configured G model: 1xAC5, 1xAC 2, 1xMG, 2xML and 1xMPL.

I was forced to have the G, through Founders, and it's fantastic!
But to remove that extra ballistics Hard-point for a few more lasers, Glorious!
I have a feeling the H has a "smaller" hump as well, so not as larger target...

The 4SP was my first HBK and I thought I was doing pretty well with it. I bought a 4H as my second variant and WOW! I have been owning with it! I thought I might sell it after I can unlock elite, but no way jose! I think the extra ballistics hardpoints on the G might be a waste compared to extra energy hardpoints.

DHS + ES + AC20 + 2 MLAS + 2 MPLAS = absolute mayhem!

Just need a few more CB to buy a 4P to round things out and unlock elite.

drove the G (founder's package) and always thought me being short of lasers - so if you can choose, take the H, it does everything the G does, but better.

Bottom line if you want dual ballistics (dual UAC5 is awesome IMHO) go with G. If you want single ballistics with 2 more lasers go with H. The rest you can do with either. Keep in mind AC20 with 5ML gives you extra punch but also extra heat. The benefit, The way I see it, is increased burst damage for hit and run and increased backup weapons (by 1 laser) if your hump is shot off. You will also have more range damage with 5ML when out of AC20 range. The dual UAC5 G on other hand can do great DPS if handled right (ie know when to single burst and do so every 1.1sec, and when to double burst). Its a great setup. Machine guns are also due for a buff which may change things (If made equal to a SL or ML in damage with no heat it would be very nice indeed. We shall see). Heat wise I find I can use the AC20 and 3ML fairly liberally, but not indefinitely (with 10-11 DBL HS). In closing I will say the dual ballistic G does require more skill to do well with I feel and the increased number of lasers makes the H more forgiving (though have to manage heat better). But so is the nature of ballistics.

OK, I got the H. Now I'm just working on configurations. If I want the AC/20, it looks like I'll need to go with a slower engine than the 250. Probably along the lines of a 225. Is that what you all have experienced? I'm not a big fan of the speed drop, but I guess when you're carrying the biggest cannon in the game, speed isn't quite as important.

I have both but the 4H is a far supieror mech because of its extra laser points.

For the AC20 I managed to use a standard 250, 2 medium lasers, 2 small lasers. I Needed the speed too.

Anything less than a 250 is unacceptable in a Hunchback. I run STD260's in all 3 of mine. I like going 92.7 kph. Once engaged... don't ever go less than full throttle. Shoot and run. Run and shoot. The priority is run over shoot. They can't kill what they can't hit.

On a 50 ton, you gotta go with the single ballistics slot. You simply can't use more than one effectively in a mech this size, at least not until we get a MG upgrade.

Please share with me how you are able to fit all these weapons and what is your heat efficiency, heat management, armor and engine.

I could come up with http://mwo.smurfy-ne...af6f9f7c05be9ff

Seems light on ac20 ammo, and would overheat in any extended brawl if the lasers were used even moderately.

Ha!That's exactly same build like mine, but I have only medium lasers and 13 DHS.
It has 1.15 HE,which I find too low.
