Don't say that to Comcast, they can't justify their traffic shaping with that argument :o

I use comcast, they've never bagged on me for using torrent software or Peer to Peer file transfer. Then again, I watch my data cap like a hawk and make sure to never go above that 250 gigs.

i think if they did a similar what that WoT did their launcher, where it can DL from the server or torrent from others at the same time.infact when you finish patching the launcher saves the updates as well as torrent files.

Heh.

You're one of the lucky then. Do some googling of 'sandvine' and comcast traffic throttling. Very real, very large PITA. Also a really big lawsuit they're trying desperately to get out from underneath.

i personally have brighthouse so the idea of throttled internet is just crap but luckily im not in that yet.

Edit:http://nthekno.info/...dth-throttling/ there is a way around that sandvine crap.

Sadly, a torrent client nowadays can get you raided and your equipment confiscated. Cause only pirates use torrents, and stuff.

Or the *IAA Goon Squads say, anyhow.

We aren't trying to pirate some scene release here, we are talking about using p2p torrent software to share the beta files faster than everyone just downloading from the MWO servers. There is nothing illegal about using a torrent client "nowadays".

I hope they won't cap. Capping does nothing for ' servers crashing ', number of connections might though.
And the faster I can download, the sooner my connection will be done ;)

I do make the assumption here that the download bandwidth is seperated from the 'play' bandwidth and the download and match hosting servers are seperated too, but I can't imagine it wouldn't be.

edit:
@Kommandor: you'll know when you're in beta or else when the games reaches open beta.

The pigeon population in London has reduced dramatically as they have all been put on back to work schemes by the government working for PGI carry packets of data for the Beta download server.

I doubt pgi will be using inhouse equipment for the distribution of the game client.

Most likely they will use a CDN service like most game companys.

Hopefully they take a good look at the founders day issues and adjust thing accordingly. If they permit preloading of the client by say like a week that may help with the server load on launch day.

You can use Netbalancer to limit any process' bandwidth up and down. I use it for Steam when I get games so I do not hog the internet while my roommate surfs the net.

You will not get anyone to make a torrent for you, because
a ) you are in the wrong forum!
b ) it would be a violation of the NDA
