Is that a pretty good guide to atlas's? I was considering either the -D or the D-DC builds on there

Well you should try heavies, they offer a good mix of armor n speed n weapons. Mediums are tricky to use. Only good players make them work. Assaults are walking turrets if you get caught in the open or alone, you are in for some ****.

Try the Catapult variants for the missiles.

Try the Cataphract variants for the ballistics.

Both have energy hardpoints sprinkled all over for backup weapons.

imo no
an lrm boat is a waste of an atlas. and as someone who used to love the gauss, it's just not worth it anymore. ac10, dual ac5s, ac5/uac5, dual uac5s, ac20 are all options, some better than others
stick to multiples of 25 for the engine for pretty much all mechs unless (1) you're trying to max out the speed and have the tonnage to spare, or (2) a slightly bigger engine weighs the same as a multiple of 25 (e.g. xl255 vs xl250)
artemis is a waste on srm's since ecm nullifies the cluster bonus
for weapons you'll be firing together, at least 1.2 heat efficiency per the in-game calculation, preferably >1.3. of course higher is better

so how would you do a sniper/long range atlas then? ACs aren't long range are they? Keep in mind I'm only using trial mechs so I don't know how a lot of the weapons perform.

Howdy,

i have Catapult, Cataphract, Stalker and Atlas Master.

My Favourite:

Heavy - Cataphract 3D: 2x Gauss, 4 MLs, XL 280, DHS ( playing this in most of our 8man Matches, best macth was 1,2k damage, 4 Mans Matches ended most of the times around 700 )

Assault - Atlas DDC which is a wonderful Friend in any game: 2x UAC5, 2 x Large Laser, 3 x Streak, 300 std engine, DHS

and check this site for a good overview about all u need to know:

http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/

hope that helps...

hmm ya that helps to see what each thing can do, don't suppose there's someplace on there to browse various fittings other people use?

see how other people use their mechs to help see what works and what not to use

The best way of doing this used to be rushing at the enemy guns blazing. After a quick death you could spy on what your remaining team was using and how. If there was nothing to see you could just leave and enjoy the reward money.

Ofcourse thats the selfish way to go and will hurt your teams chances of winning. Apart from finding a good video it's sadly still the best way to see the game as seen by the veterans. Hopefully someday well get the possibility for instructor ridealongs so one will be able to just view a match for education and enjoyment.
