Currently the PPC is treated like a ballistic weapon when its burst trajectory is computed. This means that the PPC burst will fly to the exact point where you clicked 'fire' at and not at the point the gunsight is at when the PPC burst actually flies out of the barrel (~.25 seconds after clicking fire).
That got me thinking....
If the PPC is an energy weapon but since it is instant-damage delivery the game must be treating it like a ballistic....
...yet lasers dont have this issue because their damage is delivered in 'microbursts' during their 0.75->1s firing sequence.
... so...
Why not change PPC's into true energy weapons by making their damage also be broken up into microbursts?
IF Lasers deliver damage in 1s firing time...
IF Pulse Lasers deliver damage in 0.75s time...
How about PPC's delivering their damage in 0.25s time?
That would make the PPC burst be a stream of particles that animates for 0.25s and can be 'lased' around during that short time like a laser.
10 damage in 0.25 secs if split into 2 microbursts (I think thats how many microbursts the regular pulse lasers do in that time) would be 5 damage every 0.125 secs.
This would allow the PPC to be fired in a more natural way and would be able to 'lead' a target rather than have to conjure psychic powers to predict where the mech will be by the time the game decides to lob the PPC round out of the barrel.

Damage over time could work, but the trajectory of a PPC wouldn't really change. PPCs in lore, work much like man-made bolts of lightning. One shot wouldn't really strike multiple areas.

True, however we are dealing with a hard coded failgamemechanic for as long as PPCs are treated as a ballistic weapon. 0.25s is an awefully short time for the damage to be spread out and personally Id rather two parts of a mech be hit for 5 damage or just 1 be hit for 5 damage than have it miss completely.
In short, turn the PPC into a 0.25s pulse laser.

I understand your point. Most agree PPCs need a buff, I just don't believe spreading the damage through a duration is the way to do it.
