The problem with the last enemy running and hiding in TDM (with or without respawn) can be fixed pretty simply. Just add a "no fire timer" where if 2 minutes passes with no one damaging an enemy, a 1 minute timer pops up. If this timer counts down to 0 the team with more people still alive automatically wins.
This would fix the assault apologists way of saying "base cap was added to prevent that." Some of us just want to fight, and the objective modes in this game are SEVERELY lacking. I would want to play objective mode if it had a version of assault with a heavily defended base with turrets. The attacking team has 2 more mechs or 100 more tonnage (when tonnage totals are added). The defending team has the advantage of position and defense turrets. The attacking team must destroy the "power generator" with concentrated fire (it should be very well armored).
Or a VIP mode, where one team has to escort a VIP across the map to a designated point to win the game. The other team must kill the VIP to win the game. The VIP MUST be a heavy mech or bigger.
There are so many ideas for good game modes, instead we get capture and hold with no respawns. Assault mode with "sit in the square" game mechanics. Sigh...

We already have a TDM, it's called Assault. I would like to see a true TDM with a feature like this though and have Assault returned to normal.
