Thinking about lock-on weapons vs ECM issues i came up with an idea that might help the situation a little.

First, the LRMs and S-SRMs should be able to be used as both lock-on weapons and direct fire weapons. S-SRMs would function just like normal SRMs if fired without a lock. LRMs would also act similar to normal SRMs when firing without a lock, firing straight forward and not straight into the ground. Though travel speeds and arch on the LRMs would have to be adjusted for firing without a lock. (Havent tested, but its possible the LRMs are kinda already doing this, though landing at the location your reticle is pointing at.)

Second, the way u aquire a lock should be changed. Instead of a target reticle always being up trying to lock-on, the reticle should only come up when u are actively looking to shoot the weapon. This could be done by 2 settings, a 2 tap method, or a hold and release method.

The 2 tap method would bring up the reticle on the first tap, the second tap fires the weapon. If the weapon is fired before the reticle has aquired a lock, then it is fired as a direct fire weapon.

The Hold and release method would bring up the reticle when u press and hold the button, then fire the weapon when u release it. Again if u release the button before aquiring a lock, it is fired as direct fire.

This targeting could also be used for the LBX-ACs, except the reticle would go from a large circle to a all circle, representing the spread ofthe shot. The longer u hold the closer it gets to firing a normal AC round.

This method might also make streaks a bit harder to constantly fire at moving targets, as u would need to reaquire a lock after each shot.
