I know that changing your FOV (field of view) has been posted/discussed before, but as this really
added immersion for me, I wanted to repost it in the Guides forum and maybe get it stickied.
Tired of this? "Am I a 'Mech? Or am I the pilot?"
Want this? "Oh, I'm in the cockpit! Cool!"
Here's how!
- Go to your Mechwarrior Online folder, e.g. C:\Games\Piranha Games\Mechwarrior Online\
- Open the file user.cfg* (empty by default) with Notepad
- Add the line cl_fov = 79
- BE THE 'MECH!

Why '79' you ask? User 'von Pilsner' did the research:

Now, look at that awesomely designed cockpit (Hula Girl not included with product)
Some things to take note of:
- Zoom levels are unaffected by this
- Press dot (.) to turn off cockpit lights
- Game performance may decrease
Advanced only: If your computer screen has a different aspect ratio than 16:9, you can use an even higher setting than '79' (because MWO uses vertical FOV, which is dependent on aspect ratio). See this nifty little chart:
If you are unsure about your aspect ratio, or have a slow computer, stick with the suggested '79' value.
A Hunchback was hurt in the making of this post.
