Keep hearing/seeing people saying that MWO needs an ingame VOIP but there are tons that anyone can use out of game. The ones listed in the title are easy to get and most people use them. So I thought what are peoples excuse for not using them. About the only one I heard that was even remotely good was they dont like wearing a headset and have younger kids and dont want to hear fowl language out of there speakers. But even then how hard is it to get a 30$ headset from walmart and use that for hour or so when you play. Anyways what are some of the outrageous excuses you have heard or ones that you think are good.

home life has enough groaning without commander wannabe's doing it through your earphones. then again they would have a right to if you watch 5 of them chase a commando halfway across the map and back.

Third party programs are ok for premades, but for pugs the game neeeds to have properly intergrated voice chat....and they have every right to ask for it.

I know these are not vary compelling reasons, but they are in my mind 100% legitamate. I would perceive any more complex "excuse" to contain some level of dishonesty.

Actually, I played MW4 league games with someone who was deaf and they used TS3/2 and some program to convert the voice to text.

I'll give you a good excuse.... you're stuck on dialup. ... been there.

My real excuse is nobody uses Mumble and I can't stand 200ms+ delay.

I love people who say stuff like this, because it boils down to "No one else gets to have toys because I hate everyone who does get them"

hammond in a raven laughs at james trying to explain why the dragon is the most balanced mech in the game and that awesomes are usefull. runs into clarkson's atlas and is too late to lag away then becoming victim of a single alpha. POWER!

I'm moving this discussion to Off Topic because it's not really a MechWariror: Online discussion, but rather one abut people who do/don't use VoIP in general. Also, the thread is introduced in a very biased manner and has already generated unneeded inflammation.

i dont have speakers, and after i got my speakers its cuz i dont have mic. i dont want to hear anything unless its important and then i want to be able to mute you without telling you why. this is why i dont join TS when randoms ask.

viop is more for pug/pub much easier/faster.

TS3, C3, vent, and mumble are 3rd party programs. Essentially addons. Think about WOW and how people use addons, or 3rd party programs, in that game. How it changed the social structure of the game. How it changed how the game was played.Back in closed beta people brought up the idea of addons. It did not go over well.

All addons are essentially no different than a hack, like aimbot. A 3rd party program made to gain an edge over the game or other players. The distinction between an addon and a hack is that an addon is allowed by the company that owns the game.

3rd party voice programs do not alter the game like addons. However they are used with the game for the express reason to gain an ability the game does not provide it'self. That ability is to communicate clearly with teammates. Which players using the game as is cannot do. That is a big advantage, and it is causing balance problems in the game.

MWO needs integrated voice. It will be a better game with it, and a poorer game with out.
