I brought this up in the general IS section, but it's probably more appropriate to address it here.
We've experienced a decline in member activity to the point where we're often only able to field a 4-6 man group and those of us who play more regularly are trying to figure out the best solution that doesn't involve eventually dissolving the unit or being absorbed elsewhere. One of the ideas that has sparked some interest is to form an alliance with other (perhaps small, but not necessarily) merc groups who permanently share the same Teamspeak and who coordinate on faction contracts and drops. Such a solution not only gives the participating units a bigger pool of players to drop with, but also allows people who are attached to their unit identity to keep that. We could share some level of branding (e.g. an alliance logo or some such) and/or support each others' recruitment efforts.
Now, with that said, it would be important to make sure that whatever units participated be a good cultural fit. We have competitive players and we've ranked highly in CNCI, RHoD, MCW, etc. and were one of the participating units in the MWO broadcasted tournament. We also have casual players who would rather just kick back with a cold beer and a group of friends and shoot giant, stompy robots in the face.
Additionally, personality is important. Nothing is worse than having high-drama going on in TS or super-annoying people who scream into their mics about totally stupid things all the time. That's not to say we don't cut up. We do. We just know when to get serious and when to just have fun. I'd like to make sure we're sharing space with people who feel the same way.
Anyway, if anyone is interested in at least having a conversation about this, let me know and we can try to hammer out some details.
