Okay, we all know Gauss kitties still work despite flimsy cannons (at least mine does, I still get pretty consistent kills with it), and the AC/20s are amazing...but how about some different builds?

I was toying in mechlab with possibly:

UAC-K2

2x UAC5 w/ 6T ammo
2x Llas
2x Mlas
Endo
DHS
245XL

Llas K2

4x Llas
1x AC/10 4 or 5 ammo (cant remember)
Endo
DHS
240 XL

AC/5 K2

3x Llas
2x AC/5 w/4 ammo
1x Mlas
Endo
DHS
265XL

Just ideas I'm tossing around...The UAC/5s seems pretty sweet as does 4x LLAS and an AC/10 back up.

I run a 4xLL on my K2. I don't have an XL engine for it but I have DHS and Endo and it's quite effective. Even in steamroll losses I still get like 550 damage, and have even more potential for assists as long range direct fire support.

I need to buy two K2s since I'm always swapping the load-out between PPCs,Gauss, and LLas.

This is what I usually run:

2 LLAS
2 MLAS
1 Gauss +2 tons ammo

Endo
XL300
Heat Eff: 1.2

Can switch the XL300 to XL285 to get one more ton of ammo.

A while ago I ran a dual UAC/5 K2 for a bit. It surprised me how quickly it tore through things when it worked, but I didn't find it reliable enough to stick with. It's great if you can catch something big and slow that's willing to ignore you in favor of a more "important" target, but I found it struggled against anything with at least decent mobility and half a brain, even with a 300XL under the hood.

On the upshot, a good number of people STILL don't know that the K2's ballistics are in the torso and not the arms, and I found that bought me more engagement time against bigger, meaner opponents; they're busy knocking out my backup lasers while I'm busy eating away at wherever their big gun is.

Take a regular -K2

Apply 255XL, DHS and Endosteel to main chassis.

Gently stir in one gauss rifle.

Armor, ammo and heatsink to taste.

I've just recently (yesterday) changed away from using my twin UAC/5 K2 as my regular setup. I didn't find it wracking up huge damage, but it was accurate damage that lead to a lot of kills and component destructs. As I dont have an XL engine big enough to do the K2 justice I was running with the STD 260 that came in it, and 4 MLAS. Biggest thing for me, having come from playing brawler mediums, was remembering to disengage as often as possible and knock off enemies from 4-500 meters away.

Looking at this and thinking of sticking in 1 gauss, 3 Llas, and 1 Mlas with DHS to taste...

Thoughts? Or even 2 ERPPCs?

I only swear by twin ac20. it's the only mech config in the game that gave me such an exhalarating feeling of power.

I run 2 ERPPCs and two MLs in my K2. It's solid. I try to pair up with a CTF-4x, Muromets, or Atlas. The group of us can usually roll through whatever we encounter.

1 AC20 and 4 Medium Pulse lasers. Also lots and lots of DHS. Has a bigger punch than twin AC20's, as long as you're within punching distance and not throwing distance. 1-shot a cent the other day, saw him standing still and put an alpha through the head. Lotsa fun.

"unusual"? The OP's first build is basically a Rifleman, Fiesta Mike's build is basically a Cestus, and I myself have 1 Gauss, 2 PPCs, and 2 ML which is basically a Marauder-5S.

so much for "unusual" ;)

I don't know if it's atypical per se, but my 315XL Endo+DHS quad LLas is quite fun, and with 18 heat sinks, doesn't even run all that hot.

i also liked the 4 LLas modification; now i am trying 2 PPCs in the arms and 2 Llas in torso (with 9 additional DHS), and its quite fun. because of overheating i use PPCs for long rages and the LLas for close range. in my opinion the PPCs have better performance at aiming on long distances

Quad LLas is solid, but my favorite K2 right now is 2 UAC/5 and 4 medium lasers with a 300xl engine (and endo.) I regularly post up 500-900 damage in that thing. It's pretty fast, very deadly, and can do good damage at long and short ranges. If you pour on the fire from the UAC/5s and they jam it isn't much of a big deal since you've still got 4 medium lasers in the meantime. For instance, an AC/20 cat does 10 dps at close range only and is glacially slow and only has slow-moving ballistics to fight scouts with and has ammo trouble. My UAC/5 K2 does 14 dps (9 dps at fairly long range), moves quickly, carries 7 tons of ammo, has a good option for when ammo runs out, and can ramp up the dps if you roll the dice with double-firing the UAC/5s.

The only benefit the AC/20 cat has is doing damage to one location and requiring less trigger discipline. I'll take the faster mech with higher more versatile dps every time though.

2 ERPPCs would be too hot. There's not room for that many heatsinks in the Marauder wannabe build.

I run that exact Marauder wannabe build and I have to say, as long as you time your shots and use double heatsinks you can pull off 35 point alphas until the clans come home. Makes an awesome sniper, and if anything gets close that just makes it easier to aim.

Granted it works best with an XL engine with at least two heatsink slots.

I run 2 ERPPCs, 2 medium pulse, and an A/C 2. Works pretty well.
