Checking for any good loadouts to put on my Flame Dragon. I have already tried several ac/20 builds and now I am looking for something a little more aligned with a fire support mech.

Any Ideas?

Are you looking to mix ballistic and energy or go one way or the other?

I built a speed dragon that goes something like 107 kph, xl, endo, FF, double hs (2 extra), almost max armor, 4 med lasers, 1 lbx 10 (2 tons ammo), srm 6 1 ton of ammo....

Honestly works VERY well... have had a lot of people ask what I was using or how I did it.... uses every last bit of room.

LBX/SRM 6 have a nice shot gun effect to use as you run by :P

1 Gauss 4 ML XL360:

I love this build. Fast, heat efficient, and hits reasonably hard.

To be honest, I haven't really used guass that much to be very effective with it. but that lbx and srm sounds interesting. I've used an lbx10 on my other dragons before and they've worked pretty well.

1 Gauss, 4xML is the build most people go for given the hardpoints. It's actually pretty decent.

For Engines, I recommend either the 300 XL or 350 XL (360 XL costs 1.5 more tons for only two small additional speed increments and no additional DHS slots). I've heard of people using the 325 XL too.

Personally I've never found a build that comes anywhere close to being as good as 4xLL (300 XL Engine, 19 DHS, 400 armor). 36 damage, all aimed at the same spot, with great accuracy, at up to 450m, can't run out of ammo... it's good for almost any situation.

Damage-wise I've very rarely gone over 800 with it, but even then the damage isn't representative of the build's effectiveness; being able to aim so accurately, you'll often destroy large mechs in very few shots.

Not being able to run out of ammo is fantastic. One match, I killed an opponent only to realize all my teammates had been killed and there were four enemy mechs still up (Hunchie, Catapult, Cataphrat, Atlas)... and killed them all. Did 1,191 damage on that one (5 kills, 3 assists, 1,207 XP), which was insane because I'd never broken 900 damage before, not even once. It's good to know you can do that kind of thing if the situation calls for it.

Yeah, I really don't think any other build comes close. But feel free to try other things, if only for variety's sake.

I run a 107 k/h, 2 LL, 2 med laser setup. Works real well.

I've been trying UAC/5, 4 Mlasers, and a streak, but honestly I am not very happy with it. Not sure if I need to practice with it more, or just change it.

Oh, and one more thing...

I'd stay away from AC/20 builds.

They force you to use Standard Engines, which eat up a considerable amount of tonnage for very little benefit (Dragons don't usually get their side torso blown up before their huge CT). Additionally, the actual AC/20's weight combined with the absurd amount of tons of ammo you have to add (it's only 7 shots per ton) will be very, very harsh on tonnage again. Critical slots too (10 for the AC and quite a few more for ammo).

There isn't even any advantage to this build anyway.

I tried almost everything I could for my Flame...

AC20 + ERPPC
AC20 + 4ML
Gauss + 4ML + SRM
Quad Large Laser

And the config I find delivers the best performance for me overall is the Quad Large Laser config running at 105.2kph with speed tweak. Chain them and it is a beast that rarely overheats. The faster you run, the harder it becomes to effectively coordinate and use multiple weapon systems so you end up using only one or the other at any one time and thats not very effective for me. The Chained Quad Large Lasers also allow me to specifically target those side torsos in continuous large laser fire for the quick XL Engine kill which has worked extremely well too.

Near the end of a match I got 4 kills with an ac/20 dragon while legged ... but I didn't find it my thing and now I'm searching here for better loads.

Oh, it's not worthless of course... just much less powerful.

I would actually have found it to be "my thing" if it hadn't been such a ridiculously heavy build with proportionally tiny rewards.

My flame is quite sexy.

XL300, Endo Steel, 17 Double Heatsinks.

2x PPC (1 in each arm)
2x Medium Laser (1 in each arm)
SRM6 w/ 2 tons of ammo
AMS w/ 1 ton of ammo

384/402 armor

81KPH speed (~89 w/ speed tweak)
45 firepower
1.1 heat efficiency.

Unload with the PPC's as you close to the target, then open up with medium lasers and SRM's when he's close, or your almost overheated. You can fire a good 5-6 bursts from the PPCs (both at once) before having to cool off.

max XL engine, AC10, 4 ML is what I run. goes at 107 kph. its still kind of a tweener mech, but against lights you can outlast them and against heavier mechs you can hit and run

89 kph, 300xl, endo, dhs, 389 armour, gauss(3 tons ammo), L laser, 3 M laser, case (not sure if it contains gauss explosion, an experiment in progress), 1.18 heat effic, 39 Alpha. Dropped SRM pack for M lasers to leg Ravens. Dropped AMS, seems fast enough to evade LRMs. Run the same in 1C with gauss in arm.
