I kill Frankenmechs all the time. I get killed by them all the time too.
They have no special powers, just like I don't. I just comes down to who gets the better shots.
You can't lead something that stays out of your firing arc, and I get killed when the other guy has support.

The thing is if you practice enough its quite easy to keep a light crossing your arc.

Cant really compare Cataphract to two assaults. Its a glass cannon.

RnR will probably never return. It just doesn't serve much purpose with a simple PvP MOBA title. It's just window dressing. Knockdowns will eventually return, but even then, Lights won't be bad, they just won't have the super survivability they do now. Forget about these though and just play the one you like right now.

I have to agree - I love my 'phracts but in a stand up fight against an Atlas or Stalker, unless I can find cover or get behind, I'm dead.

There isn't really a best mech though as a properly played light can bring down an assault (eventually)

There's no such as a "glass cannon" variant/Mech in this game. You can build for that by stripping armor or slotting an XL Engine, but that's irrelevant to the Mech choice. Cataphract is also a tough brawler. How you can call it a glass cannon is beyond me. I would think you'd give such a title to the Hunchbacks that are much more easily crippled or destroyed.

For close-up brawling...

1) ECM Raven (lagshielding, hard-to-hit profile, very fast speed, decent hardpoints, ecm... this thing has it all)
2) Stalker (can alpha strike for over 100 damage, nothing else in the game even comes close)
3) ECM Atlas (doesn't have the alpha capability of the stalker, but has uac5s for range, and ecm)
4) Cataphract (basically just a smaller atlas, without ecm, that moves ~15kph faster)

Thats a troll build. LB10Xs are a joke lol. Any x5Medlas, x4 SRM6, x1 SRM4 Stalker will slaughter you. You just cant compete with a Stalker's damage.

My favorite D-DC build is 2 LL, 2UAC/5s, 3 SSRM2s, and ECM. That gives you the ability to outrange a Stalker and kill them before they get within SRM range.

Cataphract for me. I like my jets though, I still have 4 on my Catap, and they get me into and out of hot spots pretty well. I think they're worth it. That and my 4 ML/2 UAC-5s get me pretty good numbers.

Sorry to all who might want to claim their Stalker can Brawl.

No. They can't Brawl.

For a Stalker, you have to aim the whole whale at something and press fire. Against even a single decent light, medium, or heavy in close, you're dead. Stalkers are support mechs. They can be built for in close support, or long range support, but they can't brawl. Just because you're in close doesn't mean you're brawling. Brawling means you gotta maneuver. Beached whales can't maneuver.

I own two Stalkers, and I get good kills with them. I enjoy them for their own benefits (OMG I can fit that many weapons on this whale??!!)

Atlas, well if you sit toe to toe with an Atlas in a Catap you're gonna die, even if he's taken damage there's a good chance you'll die, if you can maneuver about and take him in a side torso enough times, you can probably chop out enough guts to make it stop working however.

So my impression.
Cataphract. Best actual Brawler, can usually at least drive lights away, can outmaneuver Assaults, can outfirepower other heavies.
Atlas. Can outfirepower all but Stalker, can come close to matching that in some builds, tougher than hell, Not a good maneuverer, but better than the Stalker
Stalker. Beached whale. Can't Brawl. I've rescued some from lights playing with them like cat's on mice. Great firepower, so if you can get someone standing somewhere at close range will all those lasers and SRMs, you're gonna do some serious damage. CAN NOT BRAWL!!!

You don't have to worry about the Stalker's damage. You can stay out of it's firing arc in anything but another Stalker.

I put a max engine in mine, never had a problem keeping anything but lights in my firing arc.

Stalker 5M.

Cheesiest son of a gun brawler ever rolled out of the assembly line. Davion forbid if you meet one in the tunnel.

Stack SRMs, earn C-Bills by killing all other assault mechs.

Yup, i had this mug fitted in 5x SRM 5x ML months before release. I knew it would be an absolute monster on the battlefield to ANYONE smart enough to stand still in-front of me.

by best i mean can use powerful weapons sutied for any range

Then you're not asking for a brawler.... you're asking for a general purpose fire support mech.... I'd say all 3 fit the bill... with the Atlas being the most well rounded (due to ECM and different weapons types).

For all out brawling..... Stalker 5M. Anybody with any knowledge is going to know a Stalker 5M will beat an Atlas in a brawl... Atlas has more armor, but has less dmg capability & is easier to core.

Lastly -it does come down to pilot skill....I've beaten some of the best atlas pilots in game with my Cataphract. It's pretty much just aiming and speed... allowing me to turn faster after I get a CT shot off on them... if just one alpha shot goes into my arm instead of my CST.... I've nullified their weight advantage.

any of those mechs will do the job if your in a group. if you are all alone, even with the best armored atlas or the biggest alpha staker you are toast
